Your back pain may be related to crossing your legs

Part 1

Your back pain may be related to crossing your legs.

A survey shows that 75% of people know that crossing their legs is not in line with etiquette, but they still choose this sitting posture because it is comfortable.

Part 2

When we sit on a chair, the spine and sitting bones are usually used to adjust the balance. However, everyone's leg length and hip size are different, and it is almost impossible to perfectly match them with the chair. Crossing your legs can increase the contact area between the hips and the chair, keeping the center of gravity stable. At the same time, increasing the contact area can make us sit in a more comfortable and relaxed posture. Therefore, people often sit with their legs crossed unconsciously.

Part 3

You may think that sitting with your legs crossed is very comfortable, but the harm behind this sitting posture should not be underestimated. Sitting with your legs crossed will increase the pressure on the internal structure of the knee joint, causing nutritional disorders and increased wear of the cartilage. Especially for the elderly whose cartilage structure has degenerated to varying degrees, it will increase the risk of osteoarthritis. Degenerative arthritis refers to the structural degeneration of the structure of the joint due to long-term use and wear, which usually occurs in old age.

Part 4

In addition, long-term cross-legged sitting can easily cause spinal deformity. Some people may develop lumbar disc herniation and chronic back pain. The normal human spine is in an "S" shape, but when you cross your legs, the pelvis is unevenly stressed on both sides, causing compensatory scoliosis of the spine. At the same time, the spine will bend backwards due to the forward leaning of the body. If the posture is maintained for a long time, the nucleus pulposus will protrude, causing disc bulging or protrusion, compressing the nerves and causing pain in the waist, buttocks, and lower limbs.

Part5

If you think you are still young and nothing will happen, you are wrong. Look at your legs. If they are a little bent, be alert - it may be caused by long-term crossing of the legs! Long-term crossing of the legs will increase the risk of osteoarthritis in the weight-bearing legs. Because the upper leg is unevenly stressed and deflected inward, the pressure in the inner knee joint space may increase, aggravating the wear of the cartilage. At the same time, the fibular collateral ligament on the outside of the knee joint is continuously stretched, causing it to relax, which may cause knee subluxation on the basis of existing osteoarthritis, and the appearance of O-shaped legs has been formed.

In addition, long-term crossing of legs can easily induce cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, affect reproductive health in men, and easily cause gynecological diseases in women. Of course, some people will say that the risk is so great, but what can we do if we are addicted to crossing our legs? When we sit on a chair every day, we can put a cardboard box or other objects under our feet so that our thighs are parallel to the ground or our knees are higher than the hip joints. This will increase the contact area between the buttocks and the seat, allowing us to get a more comfortable sitting posture to replace the comfort of crossing our legs. Of course, after raising our feet, it naturally increases the difficulty of crossing our legs, and it can also effectively prevent us from unconsciously keeping the posture of crossing our legs. Isn't it simple!
