199IT original compilation SlashData released the "Developer Report for the Fourth Quarter of 2017". Half of developers believe that the development of self-driving cars will have the greatest impact on the development industry in the next five years. Investment and commitment drive expectations, but there is still a long way to go before full automation is achieved. Machine learning and artificial intelligence are foundational technologies that will drive a new wave of innovation. From AR to chatbots and drones, brain computing interfaces, all require AI and ML. These innovations require developers to have new and diverse skills, including mechanical engineering, biology, mathematics, probability and statistics. 30% of developers are involved in AI development projects. The adoption of serverless platforms is growing rapidly. 19% of backend developers are using serverless platforms, up from 16% six months ago. This is almost the same as virtual machines (20%). Amazon is establishing a leadership position in this emerging market, with 44% of serverless platform developers using Amazon Lambda, followed by Microsoft Azure Functions at 25%. 25% of professional game developers are targeting AR or VR, which is the same as in an earlier survey; however, among developers on the left and right, interest in these emerging technologies has dropped slightly. Professional VR hardware such as Oculus Rift is attractive to game developers, with 61% using it, but only 33% of the overall developer workforce is using it. Among VR developers, 32% are targeting Google Cardboard smartphone hardware, and 19% are using Daydream View. The situation with AR is similar to that with VR. Android and iOS are the most popular AR platforms, mainly due to Google and Apple’s unique built-in AR SDKs. JavaScript is the most commonly used programming language, with nearly 10 million developers using it, 2.4 million more than the next most popular language. In addition, the JavaScript community is growing rapidly. Python already has 6.3 million active developers and is climbing, recently surpassing C#. The rise of machine learning is a factor in Python's popularity. Niche languages like Swift, Ruby, or Lua haven't added many developers. The PDF version will be shared to the 199IT exchange group. 199IT thanks you for your support! |
