JanRain: More than 60% of consumers use social media accounts to log in to e-commerce websites

Social login, also known as social login, means that website users can use social media accounts such as Facebook, Twitter, MSN, Google, etc. to log in to the website. The biggest advantage of social login is that it can lower the login threshold and access the traffic and user resources brought by social networks. It is also more convenient for users, and there is no need to remember so many login passwords and accounts.

In the United States, more and more e-commerce websites support social login. At the same time, companies that provide social login services have emerged in the United States, such as JanRain and Gigya. A recent report released by JanRain shows that 61% of online shoppers like to use their social accounts to log in to retail websites and purchase things - these retail websites are all JanRain's customers.

Hugo.com learned from a recent report in the U.S. magazine Internet Retailer that the technology of social media login technology company Janrain Inc. helps online shoppers log in to retail websites using their Twitter, Google+, Facebook and other social networking site accounts.

The fourth quarter of 2014 was the sixth consecutive quarter that the rate of using social accounts to log in to e-commerce websites exceeded 60%. Today, Facebook has improved its services to allow more consumers to conveniently use their social accounts to log in to e-commerce websites.

In the third quarter of last year, 28% of consumers used Google social accounts to log in to e-commerce websites, a 5% increase from the fourth quarter of 2013. The rates of using Yahoo, Twitter, Microsoft, AOL and other social accounts to log in to e-commerce websites were 5%, 2%, 1% and 1% respectively.

Among the e-commerce websites served by Janrain, Facebook social account logins are far ahead, followed by Google. Facebook account logins account for 43%, Google for 40%, Twitter for 5%, and Yahoo for 4%. These e-commerce websites include media, games and consumer brand websites.

Google Chrome browser, YouTube, and Google operating system have a wide customer base, so there are many users who log in using Google accounts.

Janrain did not disclose the overall percentage of consumers using social logins, but a recent report from Gigya Inc. found that 60% of consumers "always" or "often" use social logins, double the percentage in 2012.
