Current Lifestyle Marketing: 53% of moms consider quitting social media

Can moms master social media? They're big fans, but according to a July 2014 survey from Current Lifestyle Marketing, social networks don't always please moms.

Moms are getting wild as they share photos and connect with friends. Half of U.S. mom social media users (ages 18 to 64 with at least one child under 18) say they feel pressure to create a perfect picture of their lives on social networking sites.

This is true among younger moms, who are more likely to visit social networking sites than their peers. Nearly two-thirds of mom social users (18 to 24) feel pressure to portray a perfect life, as do 60% of moms aged 25 to 34. Half of moms aged 35 to 44 admit this, too. The percentages are lower among the two oldest groups of moms.

This pressure, along with friends sharing too much, too often, has the majority of mom social media users (53%) considering stopping or temporarily stopping using social media. Moms ages 18 to 24 are the most likely to consider taking a break from social media, with moms ages 25 to 34 not far behind due to fatigue and frustration. Although moms ages 55 to 64 are the least likely to feel this pressure, they rank third in terms of considering stopping social media.

eMarketer estimates that American moms account for 19.5% of the country's adult social network users, but this share will decline next year, falling to 19.0% in 2015 and 17.8% in 2018.
