A recent report from brokerage firm Piper Jaffray shows that 40% of American teenagers own an iPhone, and 62% of them want to buy another one. Gene Munster, a senior researcher at Piper Jaffray, said in the report released on Tuesday that 40% of the 7,700 American teenagers surveyed already own an iPhone, compared with 34% in spring 2012 and 23% in fall 2011. 62% of teens want an iPhone as their next phone, while only 22% say the same about Samsung. 44% of people own a tablet computer, up from 34% in spring 2012 and 29% in fall 2011. Of those, 72% own an Apple iPad, up slightly from 70% in spring 2012. Among students who do not have tablets, 20% plan to buy a tablet in the next six months, and 74% want to buy an iPad. 43% of teens who plan to buy a tablet said they would be more likely to buy it if Apple's smaller iPad started at $299. "We expect Apple devices to continue to expand their share of the teen population and believe Apple can benefit from the consumer loyalty of younger users," Munster wrote in the report's conclusion. |
