NPD: Survey shows nearly half of mobile phone users don't know WP7

On September 21, 2011, the American technology website PCWorld reported that the latest survey by Connected Intelligence (hereinafter referred to as "CI") under the market research company NPD showed that 45% of the users interviewed were unaware of the existence of Microsoft's Windows Phone 7 (hereinafter referred to as "WP7") system, and nearly half of them said they did not know much about the system.

CI released a report titled "Android: Variation and Value-Add", which pointed out that the market share of Android system is rising, and Microsoft WP7, although well received, is ignored by the public. Although WP7's share is growing slowly, it has gained a certain degree of recognition and has begun to threaten Android and Apple iOS.

The survey report released by CI this time is a mixed blessing for Microsoft. 44% of smartphone users are considering buying a WP7 phone in the future, but 45% of users have not noticed the existence of the WP7 system, and half of the respondents are not interested in WP7 and say they are not very familiar with the system.

"Microsoft still has some way to go before consumers really understand WP7, but with the right marketing, app portfolio and a rich hardware portfolio, Microsoft can improve its market position and gradually eat into Android's market share," said Linda Barrabee, research director at CI.

Android is still on the rise, and the survey shows that among users who plan to buy smartphones in the next six months, 63% are interested in Android phones, and 36% of the respondents most want to use the Android system.

"Android will continue to dominate, which is not good news for other system competitors," Barobin said.

Barobin also said that one-third of BlackBerry smartphone users are also interested in Android and said they will choose Android when they buy a smartphone next time.

However, Android will also face severe challenges from iOS. The iPhone is still selling like crazy, and Android may also face challenges from WP7 in the near future.
