Roman & Lensho Investment Bank: Apple iPhone production to reach 22 million units in Q3 2011

According to gigaom, Roman & Lenshoy Investment Bank analyst Ashok Kumar said that Apple will mass produce iPhone smartphones in the third quarter, with an estimated 22 million units, to meet the huge demand of consumers. Although the new generation of iPhone will be launched in about 6 weeks, Apple will continue to mass produce and promote iPhone 4.

Kumar used to work for a company in Apple's supply chain. From a supply chain perspective, foundries are currently working hard to produce iPhone smartphones, with total output expected to reach 22 million in the next quarter, of which iPhone 5 will only account for about a quarter, with most models still the best-selling iPhone 4.

It is reported that the new generation of iPhone is just an upgraded and optimized version, not a completely new design. When the iPhone 5 comes out, the iPhone 4 will be redefined as a low-cost model and will continue to be produced until the new iPhone is launched next year.

Kumar pointed out that the iPhone 4 has been the best-selling smartphone for AT&T and Verizon Wireless for nearly 15 months since its launch. Even though no new products were introduced during the summer, the popularity of the iPhone 4 has not diminished, with a total of 20.3 million units sold in the most recent quarter.

When a new product is released, Apple usually sells the old model at a discount, just like the iPhone 3GS discount promotion after the iPhone 4 was launched. At the same time, the report of Roman & Renshaw Investment Bank is consistent with several previous reports, dismissing the rumors that Apple is preparing a low-priced version of the iPhone 4. Apple's move to mass-produce the iPhone 4 also proves Apple's determination to continue promoting the iPhone 4 and will continue to sell the iPhone 4 well.
