Why does the fundus also need an “annual inspection”?

The fundus is the only part of the body where the arteries, veins and capillaries can be directly and centrally observed with the naked eye. These blood vessels can reflect the dynamics of the body's blood circulation and the health status. Many systemic diseases can be reflected in the fundus. Which groups of people need to undergo an annual eye fundus examination?

01. People with diabetes

Diabetic retinopathy is one of the common microvascular complications of diabetes. It seriously affects vision and is one of the four major causes of blindness.

The duration of diabetes and the severity of blood sugar abnormalities are the main risk factors for diabetic retinopathy.
