When is beetroot harvested?

Sugar beet is a biennial crop. The first year is only a vegetative growth stage, and it cannot bloom and bear fruit. Due to different climate, soil, varieties, cultivation techniques and other conditions in different planting areas or different plots in the same area, the maturity period of sugar beet is not the same. According to the specific conditions of each plot of sugar beet, the harvest period can be reasonably determined and the harvest sequence can be arranged to obtain a higher sugar yield. Harvesting too early will not only result in low yield, low sugar content in the tubers, but also a large amount of non-sugar substances and poor quality. On the contrary, harvesting too late will make sugar beets susceptible to frost damage, resulting in an increase in the content of invert sugar, reducing the sucrose yield, and the tubers are not resistant to storage. The Northeast planting area is suitable for sugar beets. The harvest period is from late September to early and mid-October, mid-October in North China, and mid- and late October in Northwest China. Of course, the specific harvest time in each region should also be determined according to the actual situation of sugar beet growth that year. In line with this, my country's beet sugar factories start crushing sugar from mid-to-late September each year and stop crushing sugar in February of the following year (the crushing season for sugar beet is from October to April of the following year).
