Will too much sun exposure cause cataracts? Protect your eyes from the sun, too

I believe everyone has heard of "sunbathing". But in fact, when you are "sunbathing", you should also take sun protection measures, such as applying sunscreen, wearing sunglasses, sun hats, etc., to avoid being exposed directly to the sun and becoming "black" in minutes.

1. Ultraviolet rays can damage your eyes

When the midday sun is strong, if we look directly at the sun, we will experience symptoms such as eye pain and photophobia. If we are exposed to excessive ultraviolet radiation from the sun for too long, over time, it may increase the chances of developing some eye diseases, such as cataracts and pterygium.

Cataract refers to the clouding of the eye's lens, which causes decreased vision. If the eye's lens is exposed to direct ultraviolet light for too long every day, it will induce the occurrence of cataracts and aggravate the progression of cataracts. For example, in the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau in China, where solar radiation is relatively strong, the incidence of cataracts is higher than in other plains.

Therefore, in the hot summer when the sun is strong, people should reduce going out during sunny hours and wear sunglasses that can reduce ultraviolet radiation.

2 What to do if you have cataracts

Of course, cataracts do not develop after just one or two days of exposure to the sun. Cataracts develop slowly and gradually. If cataracts are diagnosed, there is no need to panic. Surgery can be performed to help cataract patients restore their vision.

At present, surgery is recognized by the academic community as an effective method to treat cataracts. Today's cataract surgery can not only treat cataracts, but also solve multiple eye problems such as presbyopia, myopia, astigmatism, etc. It is a blessing for people who suffer from cataracts and presbyopia or myopia at the same time.
