What causes tooth sensitivity?

When some people's teeth feel sour when they are exposed to hot, cold, sour, or sweet food, or when brushing their teeth, they feel sore and painful in certain parts, and they will go to the doctor: "Doctor, can you check if my teeth have exposed nerves?" However, after a probe check, it will cause severe pain at a certain point or area. If the teeth themselves do not have substantial defects such as caries (cavities), the doctor will tell you that it is dentin hypersensitivity (tooth sensitivity). The main causes of tooth sensitivity are as follows:

1. Improper brushing methods, such as brushing horizontally and using excessive force, can lead to defects at the neck of the teeth and cause sensitivity symptoms.

2. Cavities formed by tooth decay can make it easy for the dental nerves to come into contact with external stimuli, thus causing discomfort.

3. Gum recession. Gum recession will expose the tooth roots, and the dentinal tubules will be directly exposed to the oral environment, causing tooth sensitivity.

4. Grinding teeth and chewing hard objects at night will damage healthy tooth enamel and dentin, causing tooth sensitivity.

The correct way to deal with it is to pay attention to daily oral hygiene habits and seek timely treatment when problems occur: ① Develop good oral hygiene habits and learn the correct way to brush your teeth. Brush your teeth once in the morning, noon and evening. Each brushing time should be no less than 3 minutes. Rinse your mouth with warm water after meals. When brushing your teeth, you should brush from front to back, from outside to inside, along the teeth, and brush vertically. Every tooth surface should be brushed clean. ② Develop healthy eating habits, eat less sweets, hard foods, and acidic foods, and do not drink acidic beverages to reduce the loss of tooth enamel and dentin caused by diet. ③ After symptoms of tooth sensitivity occur, go to a regular hospital for treatment in time.
