Latest research: Obesity in youth doubles risk of Alzheimer's disease in middle-aged and elderly people

The only purpose of young people losing weight is to pursue beauty, and few people lose weight for health reasons!

The main reason why doctors advise everyone to lose weight is for health. A large number of studies have shown that obesity is closely related to hypertension, diabetes, hyperlipidemia, fatty liver, cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases, orthopedic diseases, etc.

At the 2020 Alzheimer's Association International Conference, a study pointed out that whether men or women, if they are overweight or obese in their youth, their risk of dementia in middle and old age is significantly increased.

1. How to determine whether you are obese

We cannot judge whether a person's weight is normal just by looking at it. Of course, if the weight is obviously over the standard, it can be seen at a glance.

However, a relatively accurate judgment is the body mass index (BMI): this is an important standard commonly used internationally to measure the degree of human obesity and health.

Ideal BMI (18.5-23.9) = weight (kg) ÷ height squared (m) According to the standards set by the World Health Organization, Asians are considered overweight if their BMI is higher than 22.9.

Chinese experts believe that the optimal value of body mass index should be 20-22. A BMI greater than 23.9 is overweight, and a BMI greater than 30 is obese.

2. The harm of Alzheimer's disease

Dementia, more accurately called Alzheimer's disease, affects nearly 50 million people worldwide, and by 2050, the number of people with dementia is estimated to increase to 152 million.

In the early stages of Alzheimer's disease, there may not be a big problem, only memory loss and decreased concentration, etc., but it does not affect daily life. As the disease worsens, memory loss gradually occurs, people cannot recognize people, cannot find the way home, and even cannot find the room at home. Personality changes, mental abnormalities, and even urination and defecation anywhere will occur. Eventually, it will develop into emotional indifference, erratic crying and laughing, loss of speech, inability to dress and eat; speechless bedridden all day, muscle atrophy, paralysis, lung infection, urinary tract infection, and death from various complications.

There are many causes of Alzheimer's disease. Among them, lack of education in early years affects 7%; hearing loss in middle age affects 8%; smoking affects 5%; these are the three main factors that cause Alzheimer's disease. Of course, in addition to these, there are also brain trauma, loneliness, diabetes, lack of exercise, etc.

Of course, this also includes obesity.

3. Obesity in youth increases risk of Alzheimer's disease in old age

After eliminating the interference of factors such as gender, ethnicity, and education level, the study found that compared with women with normal weight aged 20 to 49, overweight women had an 82% increased risk of Alzheimer's disease, and obese women had an increased risk of Alzheimer's disease by 145%.

If a man is obese between the ages of 20 and 49, his risk of Alzheimer's disease increases by 147% after the age of 70, and if he is obese between the ages of 50 and 69, his risk of Alzheimer's disease increases by 100%. Some experts believe that there is already a lot of evidence suggesting that obesity is one of the risk factors for Alzheimer's disease and related diseases, and inflammation, oxidative stress, insulin resistance, and leptin resistance may be involved.

4. Weight control is not just about beauty

Most young people lose weight for beauty, which is fine. We don't need to worry about why we lose weight, we just want the result. We need to convey a message to everyone: obesity will not only make you feel ugly or lack confidence, but more importantly, long-term obesity will lead to many diseases.

We can see many successful weight loss cases, such as Guo Qilin, Peng Yuyan, and Xiang Zuo, who used to be fat, but are now handsome. Most people lose weight by controlling their diet and moving their legs. There is no shortcut. Of course, very serious obesity can be reduced through scientific methods, drugs, or even surgery.

But for the vast majority of young people who are obese, the reason is nothing more than eating more calories but expending fewer calories, which leads to gradual accumulation of fat. Therefore, insisting on exercising and controlling diet are the best ways to lose weight.

In short, a healthy life not only means a healthy body and a healthy present, but also a healthy future.

If obesity is allowed to develop at a young age, you may eventually develop three highs, cardiovascular disease, senile joint disease and other problems, and even Alzheimer's disease, and forget the way home...
