Can carnation seedlings be planted in winter? When should carnations be planted?

Dianthus, also known as Luoyang Flower, is one of the traditional famous flowers in my country. There are many types of dianthus, one of which is the fragrant dianthus, which we often call carnation. Dianthus is very cold-resistant, so you can plant it in winter without worry, and it may still bloom.

Can dianthus seedlings be planted in winter?

Dianthus is very cold-resistant during its growing season. It is good for outdoor cultivation or potted cultivation in Shanghai and is free from insect pests.

I bought the seedlings, repotted them, and applied light compound fertilizer, and soon the stamens sprouted. Above zero degrees, there is basically nothing to worry about.

If there is a cold snap, you can sprinkle some grass clippings on the flowers grown outdoors to keep them away from the cold. Generally, they will bloom in winter. Potted plants are easier to care for. Move them indoors, and after the cold snap is over, move them out to the sun to keep them blooming. Remember to face the sun and get more sun. Apply complete liquid fertilizer once every ten days.

If conditions permit, cut off the remaining flowers immediately after flowering to prevent them from setting seeds, so that more flowers will grow. Of course, if the goal is to set seeds and pass on the family, you cannot cut off the remaining flowers.

In Qingdao area, I'm afraid we need to do better to keep warm.

When to plant carnation

Dianthus caryophyllus is actually the commonly known carnation, which is more suitable for cutting planting. January to February is the best time for cutting, and it can also be cut at other times except summer. After cutting, humidity and shade should be maintained, and the temperature should be 10-15℃. It will take about 20 days to take root and one month to be planted. The flowering period is from April to September.

Other types of dianthus can be sown on land in September, covered with 3 mm of soil, 13-15 degrees Celsius is suitable for germination, and germinate 7-10 days after sowing. Generally, it will bloom more than four months after sowing.

Will dianthus freeze to death in winter?

No.

The petals of dianthus are like pencil shavings, wavy, and each flower has many colors, just like a butterfly dancing in the grass. We can often see dianthus in green belts.

Dianthus is very cold-resistant and can still survive in frozen soil, but it is a ground-planted variety. If it is a potted plant, it will still bloom even if snow covers it completely.
