How dry is the potted plant? How to water it? How to plant cucumbers in potted plants?

Nowadays, many people are used to growing some small potted plants at home. Different plants like water to different degrees, so watering is actually very important. If you water too much or too little, it is easy for the plants to rot and die. So at what degree of dryness should the potted plants be watered?

How dry should potted plants be watered?

For plants that like to grow in a shady and humid environment, it is necessary to water them frequently to keep the soil moist. Not only should they be watered, but they should also be sprayed with water frequently on the leaves or around the potted growth environment to increase the air humidity and moisturize the leaves.

For those drought-resistant plants, watering is more particular. You should water them when the soil is dry. That is, wait until the soil in the pot is completely dry before watering. And each time you water them, you must water them thoroughly. You cannot water them halfway, because the plant roots mainly rely on the end to absorb moisture in the soil. Watering them halfway is equivalent to not watering them and will have no effect.

There are also some plants that like moisture and are drought-resistant. In this case, you should pay attention to the soil in the pot when watering. After the surface of the soil in the pot is dry, use your hands to dig up the soil layer. If there is still moisture 2-3 centimeters below the soil layer, you can water it at this time. Also, you must water it thoroughly. Do not water it halfway to prevent root death and root rot.

The best water for watering flowers is rainwater, well water, or river water. If you want to use tap water to water plants, you must first use a large basin to collect water and place it on the balcony or outdoors in the sun for about 2-3 days before using it. You should also pay attention to the time period for watering. Normally, you should choose the morning and evening time periods. Be careful not to water the plants in the middle of the day when the sun makes the soil hot, otherwise the plants will die.

How to grow cucumbers in pots

The main consideration for potted cucumbers is the variety. If it is a fruit cucumber, then the support must be prepared before flowering.

It is best to use a clay pot, plastic bottle, etc., not a porcelain pot, with a diameter of about 30 cm. A larger one is better.

The best soil for growing cucumbers is sandy soil. Fertile sandy soil is suitable for growing fruits and vegetables. Add farmyard manure to the soil appropriately. If you don't have it, you can directly use garden soil and add sawdust to compact the soil. You can also add some nutrient soil or leaf mold to make it more fertile.

After preparation, put a few more seeds in a flowerpot. After germination, just leave one or two plants that are growing well.

When the cucumber seedlings are branching, they should be topped off so that the seedlings can grow taller and more luxuriant. You can insert a bamboo pole into the flowerpot so that the seedlings can climb along the pole.

It is best to water the cucumbers every morning. In summer, just water them thoroughly, but do not allow water to accumulate. Excessive watering will make the cucumbers not taste sweet enough.

Do the potted plants at home need to be watered frequently?

In fact, potted plants grown at home do not need excessive watering, because there is a disadvantage, that is, if you water too much, the soil in the pot will be moist for a long time and cannot be alternated. This will cause the roots of flowers and plants to be unable to absorb nutrients and water normally, leading to root rot, yellowing leaves, and leaf falling.

The evaporation rate indoors is small and the light is slightly weaker, so water the potting soil when it is dry, or water it thoroughly when it is slightly dry. Especially for some drought-tolerant plants, such as succulents, tiger tail orchids, and cacti, this watering method is actually beneficial to most potted plants.
