Will newly planted flowers drown if they are watered every day? When should newly planted flowers be watered?

Planting flowers is a pleasant thing. When we buy new flowers, the first thing we need to do is to fill them with pots and soil. Generally, we need to water them thoroughly at the beginning to ensure that the soil is moist. So do we need to water them every day? When is the best time to water them?

Will newly planted flowers drown if they are watered every day?

If the newly planted flowers are repotted with the entire soil ball intact, then it is equivalent to adding more soil, which will not have much impact on their growth. If such plants like water and the environment is well ventilated and evaporation is fast, then watering every day is generally fine. Otherwise, the frequency of watering should be controlled.

The soil ball of newly planted flowers is more damaged, and they do not need much water. Too much water will easily cause root rot, such as money trees and fortune trees. You need to control the frequency of watering. Wait until the pot soil is almost dry before watering it.

Even flowers that grow normally do not necessarily need to be watered every day, and water-loving plants do not need to be watered either. This mainly depends on the environment to adjust the watering. It cannot be generalized that if you dry it for one day, it will wilt due to lack of water. For example, if you want to keep it smooth, you must always keep it well hydrated.

For flowers with rotten roots or severe root damage, moist soil is more suitable. Add water to the soil and mix it evenly before planting the flowers. In the later stage, you can use water spray to keep it moist, and then water it thoroughly when the pot soil is almost dry. This kind of flowers cannot be watered every day.

In general, whether or not to water the plants every day depends on the condition, habits, and maintenance environment of the plants. It cannot be a one-size-fits-all approach.

When to water newly planted flowers

If the pot soil is moist and relatively humid, and the flower plant itself is relatively drought-tolerant, such as cactus, succulents, and tiger tail orchids, these drought-tolerant plants do not need to be watered when they are first planted, and water them only when the pot soil is dry. If it is a water-loving plant, such as mint and pennywort, it needs to be watered immediately.

For some other potted plants, if the temperature is high and the ventilation is good, water them once after they are just planted. This water is called rooting water. It is best to pour it into the potting soil, or use the immersion method to water them. After watering thoroughly, place them in a ventilated and cool place with low light, and maintain them for a period of time, usually about ten days.

After planting, during the period of acclimatization, some newly planted flowers may have a small amount of yellow leaves, fallen leaves, and falling flower buds. This is normal. After the acclimatization period is over, they will gradually resume growth. However, do not water immediately if the soil in the pot is not dry, so as to avoid the soil in the pot being too wet, the roots cannot breathe, and cause root rot, etc.

Can water retaining agent be used to plant flowers?

Water retaining agent is a kind of agar-like adhesive substance. It has no fertilizer properties and will not burn seedlings. It is generally used as a mixed matrix for tree planting in arid areas, and as a mixed adhesive for slope greening, which has the function of retaining water.

It can also be added to potted plants as a substrate only for foliage plants that like moisture, because it takes 5-8 days in summer for a good water retainer to absorb water and evaporate the water completely. If there is too much, the root respiration will be damaged. After losing water, the water retainer is not easy to absorb water and expand quickly, and it needs a long time of water soaking to reach saturation again.

Normal contact is harmless, but it feels like jelly after swelling and should not be accidentally ingested by children.
