Why do car rims turn black? Why are the front wheels of cars so black?

The wheel hub is also called the rim or steel ring. It is a circle of metal parts inside the car tire. Its main function is to support the tire. The rim is mostly made of aluminum alloy. Sometimes you will find that the rim is darker, especially the front wheel is darker than the rear wheel. After a long time, it will look like rust. So why do car rims turn black?

Why do car rims turn black?

There are two main reasons why the wheel rims turn black. First, during daily driving, the car will inevitably be stained with dust and dirt on the road, and over time, stubborn stains will inevitably form on the wheel hub.

In addition, when the car's braking system is braking, the brake caliper will clamp the brake disc. The friction between the two will cause the brake pad to wear, and the fallen carbon powder will fall on the wheel hub and form a mixture with the mud.

If these mixtures are not cleaned in time, the carbon powder will be heated and bonded to the surface of the wheel hub after the wheel hub heats up due to driving, forming a dark surface layer that looks black.

Why are the front wheels of cars black?

Generally, the color of the front wheel hub is darker than that of the rear wheel hub, mainly because when the car brakes, there will be a backward acceleration, which will bring about a nodding phenomenon, that is, the center of gravity of the car will shift at this time, and the front wheel will bear a greater weight, so the front wheel has a greater braking strength, and will also drop more carbon powder. In addition, some low-end models will use drum brakes on the rear wheels, so that the brake powder is not easy to float out.

To avoid this problem, you should rinse the wheel hub more often to prevent the mixture of carbon powder and dust from being attached to the wheel hub after being heated and difficult to clean. When cleaning this layer of stains, you can use a special wheel rim cleaner to soften the stains, and then rinse with clean water.

Advantages of automotive hub motors

1. The wheel hub motor can directly control the speed of each wheel, so the differential required in general cars is not needed. This can not only reduce the turning radius but also simplify the structure of the car, making the car look more like a box with four wheels, thus obtaining a larger interior space;

2. The reduction of transmission mechanism and transmission distance will lead to higher transmission efficiency;

3. There is no restriction on complex transmission structure, and a variety of complex driving modes can be realized, whether it is front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive or four-wheel drive. At the same time, the wheel hub motor can realize differential steering similar to tracked vehicles through different speeds of the left and right wheels or even reverse rotation, greatly reducing the turning radius of the vehicle. In special circumstances, it can almost achieve in-situ steering, which is very valuable for special vehicles;

4. Since the wheel hub motor is highly integrated, it is easy to achieve modularization, reducing the difficulty and cost of developing new vehicles.
