What is the use of car tire grooves? Can cars be replaced with old tires?

Cars can drive on the road because of tires. The surface of car tires has various patterns, and there are grooves along with the patterns. The main purpose of these grooves is to increase the friction between the vehicle and the ground during driving.

What is the use of car tire grooves

The main function of the grooves on the tires is to drain water and break up the water film covering the tire surface on wet roads to ensure the vehicle's grip and improve braking effect.

In urban roads, the road surface after rain or cleaning by a sprinkler truck is abnormally slippery compared to dry roads. This is because of the water. As we all know, for our vehicles, all driving and braking forces come from the friction of the tires, which is what we often call grip.

There are many factors that affect grip, such as the weight of the vehicle, the condition of the tires, the condition of the road surface, etc. Rain is an important factor that affects the condition of the road surface. Most people have seen a rotating grinding wheel, and sparks fly around the grinding wheel when grinding metal. Similarly, when a tire is driving on a wet road, water droplets also fly around the wheel, and some of them adhere to the tire surface to form a water film, which affects the friction between the tire and the ground.

On dry roads, super soft tires without grooves have the best grip. This is what we often see on F1 racing cars. But when racing on rainy days, they need to be replaced with rain tires with drainage grooves. For civilian cars, there is no way to replace tires at any time, so the tires that are used directly are also those with grooves.

Can a car be replaced with old tires?

Whether old tires can be installed depends on the age and year of the tires.

The official recommendation for normal use of tires is that they should not exceed 3 years. If they are severely aged and have been used for more than 3 years, it is not recommended to install them. Also pay attention to the tread depth of the tires. If they are severely worn and the tread is very shallow, they will easily slip on rainy days and have poor grip, so it is also recommended not to install them. If they are removed from scrapped cars, the tread is also acceptable if they are not over the age. If the quality is good, it is recommended to install them on the rear wheels of the car, because if an accident occurs due to the tires, the front wheels are more dangerous than the rear wheels.

What are original tires?

Automobile manufacturers do not produce many parts, including tires, but they will implement bidding. After the bidding is completed, they will sign a contract with the tire manufacturer, and the tire manufacturer will produce and supply the tires according to the types of tires required by various types of vehicles. Including tire models, wire layers, speed levels, etc. must be implemented according to the requirements of the vehicle manufacturer. Moreover, these tires are not allowed to enter the market. They are only supplied to manufacturers for loading and manufacturer parts warehouses. Only parts suppliers or 4S stores that have signed contracts with vehicle manufacturers are eligible to get goods from vehicle manufacturers. Tire manufacturers will not have any relationship with any dealers.

This is the original tire, also known as the installed tire. Its advantage is that the quality is guaranteed.
