Why does the clematis seedling become stunted? What should I do if the clematis does not grow?

Clematis is also called clematis peony. It blooms many times and is easy to take care of. It can grow well even without pruning or fertilizing. However, you still need to pay attention to maintenance when planting to avoid the phenomenon of stunted seedlings.

Why does Clematis stun the seedlings?

1. Check the air permeability of the soil. If the air permeability is poor, you need to change the soil. For potted plants, the pot may be too small and the roots grow together. When repotting, cut off the parts of the roots that are too long and replant them.

2. Check whether the slow growth is caused by rapid changes in temperature. Some seedlings have sprouted but not grown leaves, which may be caused by temperature changes. You can add some slow-release fertilizers to replenish energy and restore growth.

3. Clematis adapts to neutral or weakly alkaline soil, which can be mixed with some sandy soil. Clay is not suitable. It is best to add some organic materials to ensure air permeability.

4. The matrix must be sterilized.

What to do if clematis doesn’t grow

Stunted seedlings usually mean that there is a problem with the root system, so the first thing to do is to take the flowers out of the pot and observe them, remove the diseased, weak, and old roots, and then soak them in a solution of carbendazim and let them dry.

The second step is to change the soil, because the stunted seedlings may also be caused by the poor quality of the original soil. The original soil is compacted, not loose and breathable, and not water-permeable. The presence of bacteria or no nutrients may all lead to stunted seedlings. Replace the original soil with loose, breathable, nutritious and disease-free soil, such as nutrient soil or peat soil plus perlite, leaf mold with river sand and perlite. Add a certain amount of particles to make the potting soil more loose and breathable, and mix some fungicide and insecticide at the same time.

The third step is to apply fertilizer. Apply appropriate fertilizer according to the potted plant itself, and apply thin fertilizer frequently.

Why doesn't clematis bloom?

Unsuitable soil

If the soil used is acidic, it will cause the clematis to grow slowly and not bloom. If this happens, it is best to neutralize the soil pH by applying wood ash to make the soil alkaline. If this is not relieved, the potting soil needs to be replaced. Therefore, when sowing clematis, be sure to choose suitable alkaline soil.

Insufficient light

If there is not enough light, the clematis will not only reduce the number of flowers, but also the color will not be bright, or even no flowers will appear. If this is the case, we can make the clematis bloom by increasing the light. If you ensure 6 hours of light every day, you can make the clematis bloom brightly and more.

Incorrect watering

Clematis is very sensitive to water. If there is too much water and the soil is too wet, black rot and root rot will occur. If there is too little water, it will not be enough for the growth of Clematis. Water it every 3 to 4 days, and the amount of watering needs to be appropriate. "Don't water if it's not dry, and water it thoroughly if it's dry."
