How to practice tennis alone

1. First of all, you need to master the correct standing posture, grip, hitting method, running position, etc., because these are the basis for learning tennis. You can check professional tennis websites or online videos to learn. This is the first step and is very critical. It determines your future development direction, whether it is formalization or indigenousization.

2. In the early stage, simple exercises are mainly used, such as throwing the ball into the air to hit the ball, throwing the ball with one hand and hitting it after it bounces on the ground, and repeating this. Pay attention to using the correct posture. Regardless of whether you can hit the ball or not, you must ensure that the action is in place. This is what my teacher told me. The standard is one level lower. You can practice against the wall, so that you have an opponent who will never fall! After you are familiar with the basics, you can enter the tennis court appropriately and practice with your companions or friends. It is best to find someone who has played for a longer time, so that you can practice with him. If there is no other way, find someone of similar level. It is more fun to practice on the court than against the wall. After all, it is a competitive mode. Be prepared to pick up the ball in the first few months, because beginners often hit the ball out of the court, which is also the reason why many people give up early.

3. At this time, after a year of training, you are an amateur player. Practicing against the wall is still a great way to exercise, relax and improve your skills. Many masters often practice against the wall! If you play more, the joy of tennis will naturally come out to the fullest!

Basic tennis moves for beginners

From the beginning to the end of the swing, the action is very important. In other words, the swing action is not just a simple swing of the racket, but a continuous and complete action starting from the preparation action. Here are the several stages of the swing action.

1. Preparation posture. Face the net, stand with your feet apart, lean forward slightly, and put your center of gravity on your toes. Hold the racket lightly with your right hand and hold it with your left hand, with the racket placed between the height of your navel and chest. Respond quickly to the incoming ball, determine whether it is a forehand or backhand shot, and be able to jump at any time.

2. Backswing. Backswing refers to the action of swinging the racket backwards before entering the swing to hit the ball. Generally speaking, when hitting the forehand, the racket is swung backwards from top to bottom, while when hitting the backhand, a straight horizontal backswing or a backswing from bottom to top is mostly used.

3. Forward swing. After determining the hitting point and being able to swing back correctly, keep your eyes on the ball, keep the racket face stable, and swing the racket as horizontally as possible. Keep your body relaxed and focus on the hitting action.

From the backswing to the moment of impact, your arms should be stretched out as far as possible, and be careful not to tilt your head back.

4. Hitting the ball. When swinging the racket forward, keep your wrist fixed to keep the racket face stable, but hold the racket loosely, and then tighten it hard at the moment of hitting the ball.

5. Follow-through. Follow-through means that after hitting the ball, you naturally stop exerting force and swing the racket in the direction of the swing. The follow-through should be large. If there is a pause in the middle, it will reduce the power and disrupt your rhythm.

6. Return to the ready position. After the follow-through, the arm is gently brought back to the center of the body, ready for the next shot. The movement should be smooth.

How to hold the racket for beginners

When you first learn tennis, you must first learn how to hold the racket. Generally speaking, there are three ways to hold the racket: the first is called the Eastern grip. When holding the racket, the racket face is perpendicular to the ground, and the thumb and index finger are held in the middle of the racket handle in a V shape. The second is also called the British grip. In addition to the racket face being perpendicular to the ground and the thumb and index finger being held in the middle of the racket handle in a V shape, which is the same as the Eastern grip, the difference is that the thumb and index finger are in contact with each other and do not separate. The third is called the Western grip. In tennis, many players use the Western grip, with the racket face parallel to the ground and the palm holding the racket handle from above. This grip can be very powerful when hitting high balls.

For beginners, you can try all three methods and use whichever method you feel most comfortable with. There is no need to stick to only one method from the beginning. As your skills improve, you can make adjustments, which will help you master the correct grip method that is more suitable for you.
