Can alcohol spraying disinfect a room? How to use alcohol to disinfect a room

We all know that alcohol is a common disinfectant. It can effectively kill the new coronavirus to a certain extent. So many people have used alcohol for disinfection recently to avoid infection with the new coronavirus. So can alcohol spraying disinfect the room? Let's take a closer look!

Can alcohol spraying disinfect the room?

Alcohol spraying can disinfect, but it can easily cause a fire. It is not recommended to spray with alcohol; wiping is better.

When using alcohol for disinfection, be sure to stay away from fire. In addition, the lower explosion limit of ethanol is about 3.3%. Disinfection should be carried out by wiping, and spraying disinfection is prohibited indoors.

Alcohol should not be used to disinfect the air, nor should it be sprayed on the outer surface of clothing. First, these disinfection methods cannot guarantee the disinfection effect. More importantly, if it encounters static electricity or open flames, alcohol can quickly catch fire and even cause a fire. Especially at present, when it is dry and static electricity is high, it should be avoided.

The best way to disinfect with alcohol is to wipe it, which is also safer. For example, when disinfecting objects such as mobile phones, you can follow the following three steps:

① Use a clean towel (75% alcohol cotton pad) dipped in 75% alcohol to wipe the phone; ② Wait for 15 minutes, then wipe the phone with clean water; ③ Finally, wipe the phone dry with a clean towel.

Precautions for alcohol disinfection

1. Pay attention to ventilation. When using alcohol indoors, good ventilation is required. Used towels and other cloth cleaning tools should be washed with plenty of water after use and then stored in a sealed container or placed in a ventilated place to dry.

2. Use correctly. Before use, thoroughly remove flammable and combustible materials around the place of use. Do not use near heat sources or open flames. Before disinfecting the surface of an electrical appliance, turn off the power first and wait for the appliance to cool down before proceeding. If you use alcohol to wipe the kitchen stove, turn off the fire first to prevent alcohol evaporation from causing explosions. After each use of alcohol, the container must be immediately covered and it is strictly forbidden to leave it open.

3. Store in moderation. Alcohol is a flammable and volatile liquid. When residents use alcohol for disinfection at home, it is recommended to buy small-packaged medical alcohol for civilian use. A single bottle should not exceed 500 ml. Do not store large amounts of alcohol at home to avoid potential safety hazards.

4. Safe storage. Alcohol containers should be stored in glass or special plastic packaging, and must be reliably sealed. It is strictly forbidden to use uncovered containers. When storing residual alcohol, pay special attention to tightly cover the lid to avoid volatilization. Store it in a cool place away from light and avoid placing it in a balcony, stove, heater or other heat source environment.

5. Strengthen education. In families with young children, alcohol should be kept out of reach of children to avoid accidental ingestion. For older children, parents can explain the properties of alcohol to them and teach them not to play with alcohol, let alone ignite it with fire.

6. Emergency treatment. If alcohol is spilled, it should be wiped up in time. If alcohol is accidentally ignited, dry powder fire extinguishers, carbon dioxide fire extinguishers, etc. can be used to extinguish the fire. Small-scale fires can also be covered with wet towels or wet clothes to extinguish the fire. If it burns outdoors, sand can be used to cover it.

How to save yourself from alcohol burns

After being burned, the first thing to do is, of course, to put out the fire. The correct response measures for the injured should include the following:

First, take off your clothes immediately. Clothes stained with alcohol have become combustibles. Removing them as quickly as possible and away from the heat source can minimize damage and consequences.

Second, avoid shouting loudly. When the head and face are surrounded by flames, shouting can cause severe respiratory burns. Respiratory burns are one of the three major causes of death in burn patients.

Third, try to put out the fire. It is best to cover it with cotton fabric or rinse it with water as soon as possible, and seek medical attention immediately after the fire is extinguished.

Specific methods for room disinfection

Before starting household disinfection, clean your hands, put on household rubber gloves/disposable latex gloves and a mask, prepare a 1:100 dilution of 84 disinfectant, and disinfect in the following aspects:

1. Tableware and tea sets: Boil for 15-30 seconds, or use a high-temperature disinfection box (cabinet) to disinfect;

2. Object surfaces: For frequently touched surfaces such as countertops, door handles, telephones, switches, kettle handles, washbasins, toilets, etc., you can use 84 disinfectant diluted 1:100 and wipe them for 30 seconds, then wipe them clean with clean water.

3. Floor: You can use 84 disinfectant diluted 1:100, wet mop it for 30 seconds, and then mop it with clean water.

4. Ordinary fabrics: Towels, clothes, quilt covers, etc. can be soaked in hot water, then soaked and washed with clothing detergent and disinfectant, and finally rinsed with clean water.

5. After cleaning and disinfection, immediately clean the cleaning and disinfection tools, such as mops, rags, etc., to avoid secondary contamination, then remove the mask and gloves and wash your hands.
