What is the cause of canna root rot? How to remedy canna root rot?

Canna is a plant with beautiful flowers and is easy to grow. Many people grow one or two pots of it at home. However, many people encounter the problem of root rot when growing it. So what is the cause of canna root rot? How to remedy canna root rot? Let's take a look.

What is the cause of canna root rot?

Root rot is caused by overwatering, poor soil permeability, inability to absorb water, and long-term accumulation of water in the soil, leading to tuber rot and disease. It may also be that the fertilizer concentration is too high, burning the roots. After the roots rot, the leaves turn yellow, wilt, and do not stretch because the nutrients are not reaching the leaves, and the leaves look weak and out of shape.

How to remedy canna root rot

If the condition does not improve and continues to deteriorate, you need to change the soil for the plants with rotten roots.

1. Take out the whole pot of the plant, shake off the soil, and soak the roots in water containing carbendazim.

2. Take out the plants after soaking for about an hour and plant them in new, clean soil.

3. After planting, water thoroughly once and move to a ventilated and cool place. Do not water or expose to the sun during this period. When you have time, you can spray water on the leaves to increase the humidity.

How cannas survive the winter

1. Watering

Canna is relatively drought-resistant, but likes moisture and is not very tolerant to waterlogging. Therefore, we must be careful when caring for canna. While keeping the soil in the pot slightly moist, do not water it too much, especially in winter, we must control the water properly. Due to the low temperature in winter, if watering is still the same as before, frost damage is very likely to occur.

2. Lighting

Canna is a plant that likes light, so when we are caring for canna, we must give it sufficient light. Except in the summer when the light is very strong and the temperature is very high, full-sun maintenance may burn the leaves. We need to take appropriate shading measures. In other seasons except summer, we can put canna directly under the sun for maintenance. It is more suitable for canna growth to maintain it under full-sun conditions!

3. Fertilization

Canna does not have a high demand for fertilizer, because canna is very resistant to barrenness, and will grow well even in soil with low fertility. However, if we want canna to grow well, we should still fertilize it appropriately. For example, in the vigorous growth period of canna in spring and autumn, we need to apply organic fertilizer several times, but we should pay attention to the concentration as low as possible. In addition, before the flowering period of canna, in order to promote flowering and bud formation, and promote large and colorful flowers, we generally use potassium dihydrogen phosphate fertilizer, but we must stop fertilizing in time after the flower buds are formed! Xiaoye recommends that novice flower friends, if you feel that you can't grasp the amount and concentration of fertilizer, you can directly use microbial agents, because microbial agents can prolong the flowering period, improve the soil, increase the resistance of plants, and will not cause root burn!
