Is it better to prune winter jasmine once or twice a year? How to prune winter jasmine after it blooms?

Winter jasmine is a common flower plant in my country. It is called the "Four Friends in the Snow" along with plum blossoms, daffodils and camellias. Winter jasmine is easy to grow, has strong adaptability and beautiful colors, so it is very popular. Winter jasmine needs to be pruned regularly so that it can bloom better. So how often should winter jasmine be pruned?

Is it better to prune winter jasmine once or twice a year?

It is best to prune Forsythia twice, once in spring after it has finished flowering, when all branches grown that year should be cut off, leaving one or two buds. Prune it again after it has grown for a period of time, and cut off the weak branches according to the uniform length of the crown branches. If the branches grow too fast, they can be shortened again in late March or early April. After side buds grow, remove one side bud according to the growth direction of the branches.

Then prune it according to the shape, prune the roots again and change to a larger pot. There should be basal fertilizer at the bottom of the pot, and maintain it with plenty of water and fertilizer until mid-July when it is pruned again. After germination, slightly reduce the water, and water again when the leaves are rolled up. Apply phosphorus and potassium fertilizers twice in September, maintain normally in October, and put it in a fine pot in November. Keep it in a warm and sunny place. Prune it after the flower buds appear in late January, and enjoy it after it blooms. At this time, the branches should be less than ten centimeters and full of flowers.

How to prune jasmine after it blooms

Forsythia needs to be pruned after it blooms. On the one hand, it controls the shape of the plant and makes it more beautiful. On the other hand, pruning not only makes the forsythia grow more luxuriantly, but also allows it to bloom more flowers in the coming year!

The flowers of winter jasmine are all on young branches. If they are not pruned after blooming, it is not conducive to growing more young branches, and the nutrients are absorbed by the old branches, so there will not be many flowers blooming next year! Generally, when we see the winter jasmine used for greening, they will be pruned after blooming, so that there will be more and more beautiful flowers blooming next year.

The most suitable time to prune the forsythia is within 10 days after all the flowers have withered, and no more than one month at most, leaving 2 to 3 buds on each branch. After this pruning, many new branches will emerge, and many flowers will bloom in the coming year. However, attention should be paid to fertilization after pruning, because the forsythia consumes a lot of nutrients when it blooms. Pruning can better promote the growth of new buds, and sufficient nutrients are needed. After pruning, apply nitrogen fertilizer every 10 days, for a total of two times, to promote the germination of new branches and new shoots.

Is forsythia afraid of freezing in winter?

Winter jasmine is very cold-resistant. After the cold, the branches and buds are slightly reddish, which is very beautiful. It will not freeze to death even at minus ten degrees. Once the temperature warms up, the yellow flowers will bloom in succession, and the flowers will be magnificent and golden. There is no need to protect large trees from the cold, but it is necessary to take appropriate cold-proof measures for seedlings. Because young and tender tissues are still prone to frostbite, the leaves will turn brown-green, and in severe cases, the front part will die. Moreover, if the growth is too vigorous in a growing season and it is not pruned in winter, it is easy to produce branch shedding. It can be moved indoors or to a greenhouse, or covered with a plastic bag.
