Normal women only release one egg per month. The egg is viable within 24 hours after being released from the ovary. Sperm can only survive for 24-48 hours after entering the female body. Pregnancy can only occur when sperm and egg meet. Therefore, for infertile couples, having sex during ovulation can increase the chances of pregnancy.

1. Calculation of menstrual cycle

The female menstrual cycle starts from the first day of menarche and ends when the next menstruation comes.

For women with normal menstrual cycles: Women's menstrual cycles vary in length, but the time interval between ovulation and the next menstrual cycle is relatively fixed, usually about 14 days. Then, based on the relationship between ovulation and menstrual cycle, the ovulation period can be calculated according to the menstrual cycle.

Calculation method: Starting from the first day of the next menarche, the last 14 days or minus 14 days is the ovulation period. The ovulation period is the sum of the 5 days before and 4 days after the ovulation period.

For those with irregular menstruation: other methods are recommended to infer the ovulation period.

2. Ovulation test strips

One week after the end of the menstrual period, measure at the same time every day. Do not drink too much water 2-3 hours before the test and avoid morning urine to avoid affecting the accuracy of the test. Ovulation usually occurs 24-48 hours after a positive ovulation test.

This method is simple, convenient, easy, low-cost and can predict ovulation time with high accuracy, and can be widely used. However, this method is not suitable for patients who use drugs such as HCG, have thyroid disease or central nervous system diseases.

3. Ovulation temperature method

The body temperature of a normal woman measured immediately after waking up from a good sleep is called ovulation temperature, which is usually the body temperature measured before standing up after waking up in the morning. One sign that ovulation has just begun is a slight rise in body temperature. You can measure your body temperature at a fixed time before getting up every morning, and then write down the numbers and draw a graph. If you keep recording for a few months, you will be able to predict your ovulation period according to the regularity.

In the period of life before ovulation, the body temperature is generally below 36.5℃. On the day before ovulation, the body temperature drops a little bit, and the body temperature is the lowest on the day of ovulation. One day after ovulation, the body temperature begins to rise, with a rate of more than 0.5℃, and it takes about 12 to 16 days until the menarche. Every woman can calculate her ovulation period from the lowest day based on this periodic ovulation temperature.

Evaluation: The requirements for regular sleep time and long-term monitoring (3 months) are relatively strict. Daily monitoring is required and those who do not comply well are not allowed to participate. Its accuracy is affected by many factors, so it is currently only used as a reference indicator in clinical medicine.

4. Observe and measure the characteristics of cervical mucus

Generally, 1-2 days before ovulation, the vagina becomes more and more moist, the secretion increases, and it is unusually thin, very elastic, clear and transparent like egg white, with long threads. The appearance of such secretions indicates that ovulation is imminent, which usually lasts for 3-5 days. At other times, vaginal secretions are very small and appear thick and sticky.

Evaluation: This method is minimally invasive and free of cost, but it is highly subjective and unreliable.
