What is syphilis in women?

Syphilis in women: Syphilis is a very harmful sexually transmitted disease caused by Treponema pallidum. In clinical medicine, syphilis is divided into primary, secondary (early) and tertiary (late) syphilis.

Adverse effects of syphilis in women

Primary syphilis in women

2 to 3 weeks after having sex with a syphilis patient, one or more hard red lumps may appear on the genitals or other parts of the body. They are neither painful nor itchy, and the surface is often ulcerated. In medicine, they are called chancres. At this time, lymph nodes in the groin and other places often swell, which is primary syphilis.

When suffering from primary syphilis, the pathogen is still confined to the local area and has not spread throughout the body. That is, the disease is on the surface and has not yet entered the interior. It is a good time for treatment. If standard syphilis treatment is carried out during this period, 100% of cases can be cured.

Secondary syphilis in women

If this opportunity for treatment is missed, the chancre may resolve on its own after a few weeks. At this time, don't be lucky that the disease has been cured. On the contrary, the pathogens have already invaded the blood and spread throughout the body with the blood. Various rashes appear on the skin, often accompanied by swollen lymph nodes. This is secondary syphilis. Six weeks after infection with syphilis, secondary syphilis can occur, and about 20% of patients with secondary syphilis lose the chance of eradication. It is not difficult to see how important it is to detect primary syphilis as early as possible and start treatment as soon as possible!

Syphilis damage in women

If a woman is infected with syphilis and it is not treated in time, she will not only be hurt herself, but will also continue to infect her husband or others. Primary syphilis is highly contagious, and there are many Treponema pallidum on the surface of the chancre. Especially for women with chancre growing in the vagina or cervix, because the chancre does not hurt or itch, does not affect sexual life, and is not easy to be found, it is the most dangerous pathogen. When a woman is infected with syphilis during pregnancy, the Treponema pallidum can invade the fetus, causing miscarriage, stillbirth, and premature death after birth, or passing on congenital syphilis to children.

In the early days of liberation, in many areas where syphilis was prevalent, there was a tragic situation where mothers could be seen pregnant but their children could not be seen being born, and some villages suffered the disaster of genocide. This shows that the harm caused by congenital syphilis is quite serious.

Syphilis prevention in women

The failure to detect syphilis in its early stages is also related to people’s lack of awareness of syphilis. Because people don't have enough knowledge about the prevalence of syphilis, they usually don't suspect that their symptoms are related to syphilis.

During pregnancy, women must pay attention to check whether they are infected with syphilis. Two standard anti-syphilis treatments in the first three months of pregnancy and the last three months of pregnancy can effectively prevent congenital syphilis.

2 to 3 weeks after abnormal sexual behavior, if you find single or multiple lumps that are hard like the earlobes and have eroded surfaces in your private parts, vagina, cervix, mouth, breasts, etc., or if you experience bleeding during sexual intercourse and swollen lymph nodes in your thighs, etc., please go to a STD clinic for examination immediately. Once syphilis is confirmed, standard anti-syphilis treatment should be carried out first.
