Is it useful to take a pregnancy test at night?

I believe many people know that a woman’s pregnancy can be detected through pregnancy test strips. However, some people may forget to use the pregnancy test strips in the morning, so they want to use it at night, and they will worry about the test effect and accuracy. Next, I will briefly introduce to you whether the pregnancy test strips are accurate at night?

Are pregnancy tests accurate at night?

If you do a pregnancy test at night, the success rate will be affected to some extent. Because the urine in the morning usually has the highest HCG value. Many pregnancy tests also don’t indicate the best time of day to take the test. Generally speaking, the most accurate result will be obtained using the first urine voided in the morning. Although the misdiagnosis rate of a positive result is not as high as that of a negative result, there are many non-pregnancy factors that can cause a positive test result: blood in the urine, previous pregnancy (HCG hormone can be detected after miscarriage, abortion or 8 weeks of pregnancy), uterine and ovarian tumors, or taking some fertility drugs.

How long does it take for a pregnancy test strip to detect pregnancy?

Generally, pregnancy can be detected with a pregnancy test strip about 6-10 days after intercourse.

1. Waiting time for sperm and egg after intercourse: 1-3 days. After intercourse, it takes some time for sperm to merge with the egg. Sometimes he may have to wait for 72 hours, waiting for the delicate egg cell to mature and come out (ovulation period) before he can meet the fusion.

2. The time it takes for sperm and egg to combine, cross the bilateral fallopian tubes and enter the uterus: 3-4 days. After the successful fusion of sperm and egg, the sperm and egg combination will grow and move through the fallopian tubes toward the uterus, and it will take about 3-4 days to reach the uterus.

3. The time that the sperm and egg combine and linger in the uterus: 2 to 3 days. After the sperm and egg combine and enter the uterus, they have to roam inside for a while before they can find a focus and finally the embryo implants in the uterus.

4. After the embryo implants, the sperm and egg combine to connect with the embryo and the uterus. The embryo will produce HCG. HCG will appear in the urine, but the concentration is very low at the beginning. Sometimes the pregnancy test paper will not show it, or it will always show two lines, one dark and one light. The lighter ones may be very light and almost invisible. Many people also call this shallow bar a "watermark".
