What to do if one side of the breast milk is more than the other

Today, the editor wants to talk to you about the issue of milk swelling. After giving birth, mothers' physical experiences will generally change, and milk swelling is one of them. But a strange phenomenon is that some mothers have more milk on one side and less on the other. What is the reason for this? What should I do if one side of my milk supply is more than the other?

The reason why there is more milk on one side and less on the other

1. Baby's sucking. If the baby often sucks more from one breast and less from the other breast, the milk secretion of the breast that eats less will decrease, or even stop secreting, eventually resulting in more milk on one side and less on the other.

2. One side of the mammary duct is blocked. If one side of the mammary duct is blocked, it will secrete less breast milk. Conversely, the side with an unobstructed mammary duct will secrete more milk.

3. If one side of the nipple is abnormal, such as one side is stuffy, turned inward, or too small, it will affect normal breastfeeding. The original breast milk is retained, and after a long time, one side will have more milk and the other side will have less.

4. Bad feeding habits, failure to immediately release milk after delivery or failure to clean the breasts immediately after each breastfeeding, or too infrequent breastfeeding, will all lead to reduced milk secretion and the appearance of more milk on one side and less on the other.

What to do if one side has more milk than the other?

1. Start breastfeeding from the side with insufficient milk each time. This will stimulate the breast and help increase milk secretion.

2. After each feeding, you need to use a manual breast pump to suck the nipple of the side with insufficient milk again, and the side with more milk does not need to be sucked too clean.

3. Increase the frequency of breastfeeding in the breast with insufficient milk, and do not ignore the breast with excess milk to prevent milk accumulation and mastitis.

4. When the baby is about to fall asleep, try to breastfeed with the breast that the baby does not like, and gradually change the baby's feeding habits.

5. Persevere in the above work, and you will see obvious changes in 3-5 days.

In many cases, we cannot explain the problem of mothers' milk increase in a very scientific way. There are also various differences in whether one side has more breast milk than the other. It just means that the baby can absorb as much breast milk as possible. As long as the mother is healthy, such breast milk problems are not serious.
