Can I still get the vaccine if I have been infected with HPV?

Cervical cancer vaccine is a new type of vaccine that has appeared in recent years that can prevent human papillomavirus infection. Because the vaccine is new, it is relatively popular in China at this stage and can only be injected in Hong Kong, China. Therefore, there are still many friends who don’t know much about the vaccine. Female friends must pay great attention to their own protection. Some people have already been infected with HPV and still want to get vaccinated. So, can they get vaccinated if they have been infected with HPV?

1. The effect of getting vaccinated after being infected with HPV is not very good. This is because once infected with human papillomavirus, it will remain dormant in the body. If the human body develops immunity, it will inhibit the copying of viral DNA in the body, and it may gradually turn negative. For women who have already been infected with HPV, the HPV vaccine cannot eliminate the virus that has already been dormant in the body. The latent virus will always be in the body and cannot be eliminated by itself unless it turns negative on its own. Once infected with the virus, even if you get vaccinated, it will no longer be able to prevent the virus from spreading.

2. If you are infected with HPV types 16 or 18, you cannot get the cervical cancer vaccine because cervical cancer is mainly caused by high-risk HPV types 16 and 18. If you have been infected with this type of virus, it is recommended to have regular follow-up visits and a colposcopy first to mainly understand whether the cervix has undergone epithelial cell changes after being infected with high-risk HPV viruses. If you have already developed the disease, you should get treatment immediately and then come back for a follow-up visit after treatment. Cervical cancer screening should be done once a year. Only if there are no problems with the screening test can cervical cancer vaccination be considered.

3. If a woman has been infected with HPV or is in the stage of being infected with HPV virus, the effect of vaccination will be small at this stage. Therefore, relevant screening can be done before vaccination. If the test shows that she is not infected with HPV virus, vaccination is reasonable. After being infected with the HPV virus, it will be effective as long as you are sure that you are not infected with all the types that the cervical cancer vaccine prevents. The newest is the nine-valent cervical cancer vaccine, and a person cannot be infected with nine types of HPV viruses at the same time, so female patients do not need to be too anxious.
