Best sleeping position during menstruation

Best sleeping position during menstruation

To maintain physical and mental health, women must not only get enough sleep, but also pay attention to the choice of sleeping posture. Common sleeping positions include lying flat, sleeping on the side and lying on the stomach, and different people have their own habitual sleeping positions. But during a woman's menstrual period, especially when the flow is heavy, basically no matter how she sleeps, she feels uncomfortable. She is afraid of leaking from behind if she lies flat on her back, and she is afraid of leaking out if she lies on her side. So what sleeping positions are best for women during their menstrual period? What sleeping positions should be avoided?

What sleeping positions are best for women during menstruation?

Prone: Compression of internal organs

Many women will find that their abdominal discomfort is very severe during menstruation, and once they adopt a prone position, they can relieve the feeling of abdominal bloating.

However, don't fall asleep on your stomach just for this little bit of comfort. When lying prone, not only the chest will be stressed, increasing the pressure on the chest, heart, and lungs, but also the face will be stressed. After waking up, you will find that your face is swollen and your eyes are red, which gives you the effect of being "seriously injured".

Lying flat: may aggravate menstrual pain

Lying flat is a very common sleeping position, but for women during menstruation, this sleeping position may not be suitable. Under normal circumstances, the normal position of the uterus of an adult woman is in the center of the pelvis, with the uterus extending forward and the cervix forming an angle of 120 to 150 degrees with the uterus.

If you sleep in a supine position for a long time, it is likely to cause the uterus to shift, the most common of which is retroverted uterus, which means that the uterus no longer extends forward, and a series of body changes occur at the same time. When menstruation comes, the soft tissue of the uterus will be hematoma and edema. If the uterus is retroverted, it will immediately cause compression of the nerves around the pelvis, causing symptoms such as menstrual pain and general weakness. The retroverted uterus may also pull the cervix up, making it impossible for sperm to successfully enter the cervical canal, thus causing infertility. Finally, the posterior tilt of the uterus may also cause blood flow obstruction in the pelvis, causing excessive blood congestion in the pelvis and increasing menstrual volume.

Side sleeping: Right side is best

Side sleeping is divided into right side sleeping and left side sleeping. Lying on the left side will compress the heart, causing poor blood circulation and causing physical discomfort; while lying on the right side is conducive to smooth blood circulation, normal operation of human internal organs, adequate blood supply and conducive to menstrual discharge.

As for the leakage problem that many girls are worried about, as long as they use additional night-time sanitary napkins properly, it is generally not a problem. If you are really worried, you can put some old clothes on the bed sheet and pad it under your waist and buttocks. The area of the bed sheet does not need to be too large, just enough to catch the discharged menstrual blood, and it is also convenient to clean.
