Can pregnant women take norfloxacin?

The effects and functions of norfloxacin capsules are well known to everyone. The market sales volume of norfloxacin capsules also proves that it has a very good therapeutic effect on corresponding diseases. But is it okay for pregnant women to take norfloxacin capsules? Are there any other taboos?

Norfloxacin capsules have not been confirmed to have any malformation-preventing effect in small animals. However, there have been no adequate, well-compared studies in pregnant women, and therefore norfloxacin capsules are not suitable for use in pregnant women.

There is no information available on whether norfloxacin capsules can be secreted into breast milk. When lactating women use 200 mg of norfloxacin capsules, the drug cannot be detected in breast milk. However, because the dosage used in scientific studies is small and other types of this drug are secreted into breast milk, as well as the potential for serious side effects on newborns and infants, nursing mothers should avoid using norfloxacin capsules or stop breastfeeding when using them.

In addition, you should pay attention to the following during the medication period:

1. Urine alkalinizers can reduce the solubility of norfloxacin capsules in urine, causing crystalluria and nephrotoxic side effects.

2. When norfloxacin capsules are used together with aminophyllines, competitive inhibition of the cytochrome P450 binding site may cause a significant decrease in the liver elimination of aminophyllines, an increase in the blood clearance half-life (t1/2b), an increase in blood drug concentration, and the appearance of symptoms of aminophylline food poisoning, such as nausea, vomiting, tremors, restlessness, excitement, twitching, palpitations, etc. Therefore, when used together, the blood concentration of aminophyllines should be measured and the dosage adjusted.

3. The use of cyclosporine and norfloxacin capsules together can increase the blood concentration of the former drug. It is necessary to detect the blood concentration of cyclosporine and adjust the dosage.

4. When Norfloxacin Capsules are used in combination with the anticoagulant warfarin, the anticoagulant effect of the latter can be enhanced. When used together, the patient's prothrombin time must be strictly monitored.
