How much higher is your body temperature at night than in the morning?

A woman's body temperature will be slightly higher when she is pregnant. Some people find that their body temperature is higher at night than in the morning. How much higher is normal for the body temperature at night than in the morning? A slightly higher body temperature will only occur in the early stages of pregnancy. Under normal circumstances, it will be about 0.3-0.4 degrees higher, so pregnant friends don't need to worry too much. Below is a detailed introduction to the changes in body temperature during pregnancy.

1. Is the body temperature higher at night than in the morning during early pregnancy?

Everyone has a fever during early pregnancy. It will almost reach a low-grade fever state, and after the second trimester (starting from the 13th week), the body temperature will return to its original normal state.

The period from the first day of menstruation to the ovulation period is called the low temperature period, and after ovulation, it enters the high temperature period. Because progesterone has a warming effect, it can increase body temperature by 0.3-0.4 degrees above normal. Therefore, the body temperature of expectant mothers will be slightly higher than that of ordinary people. About 37.5 to 38 degrees is within the normal range.

Generally speaking, the basal body temperature during pregnancy is high and will last for about 16 weeks. Therefore, if you have an inexplicable fever in the early stages of pregnancy, you will feel uncomfortable. When the temperature is around 37℃, there will be no physiological abnormalities, but if it remains above 37.5℃, there may be other diseases and it is best to see a doctor.

Experts say: The temperature symptoms in early pregnancy are the temperature measured after eliminating all interference. Therefore, the requirements for measurement are relatively strict. For example, after 5-6 hours of continuous deep sleep (especially after waking up in the early morning), you should measure your temperature without doing any activities. Record the body temperature measured at this moment on the basal body temperature chart, and also record the menstrual period time and number of sexual intercourses. If there are other conditions, such as fever, cold, lower abdominal pain during the period, vaginal spotting, etc., please indicate them specifically.

Basal body temperature is measured under the tongue while lying still for more than 4 hours (the measurement time must be more than 5 minutes). It should be measured at the same time period every day, for example, between 5:30 and 7:30 every day.

2. Changes in body temperature during pregnancy

Pregnancy is a complex physiological and psychological process. The changes in body temperature that expectant mothers encounter during this stage often follow certain "rules".

1. Pregnancy period - temperature gradually rises

During the process of physiological changes, women's bodies will go through a low temperature period. The low temperature period refers to the period from the day of menstruation to the ovulation period. After ovulation, pregnancy enters the high temperature period. A higher temperature in early pregnancy will persist. The basal body temperature of women with a normal menstrual cycle is biphasic, that is, in the second half of the menstrual cycle, due to the effect of progesterone, the basal body temperature increases by 0.3-0.4℃ compared with the first half of the cycle. After a woman becomes pregnant, her basal body temperature will rise by 0.5 degrees Celsius and will last for about 18 days.

2. Early pregnancy - high temperature period

In the first 1-3 months of pregnancy, the expectant mother's body temperature will be at a higher level. If the measurement results show that your body temperature is slightly higher than usual for 20 consecutive days and remains high, you are very likely pregnant.

3. Second trimester: return to normal body temperature

Everyone has a fever during early pregnancy. It will almost reach a low-grade fever state, and after the second trimester (starting from the 13th week), the body temperature will return to its original normal state.
