Which is more painful, vaginal birth or caesarean section

What kind of delivery method will women choose in the later stages of pregnancy? As for whether to choose natural birth or cesarean section, it is mainly determined by the specific situation of the woman. Some women are suitable for natural birth, so natural birth is better. If the pregnant woman does not meet the conditions for natural birth, she will need a cesarean section. In fact, no matter what kind of delivery method is used, pain is inevitable. But which one is more painful, natural birth or cesarean section?

Which is more painful, vaginal birth or caesarean section

Many mothers want to choose a caesarean section because they are afraid that giving birth will be too painful. Speaking of which, the pain of natural childbirth is indeed more intense than that of caesarean section, which is also the real reason why many women give up natural childbirth. However, natural childbirth has many benefits for the fetus, although from the perspective of pain, natural childbirth is more painful than cesarean section, and the degree of pain will also vary depending on the time.

The pain of childbirth can be divided into the following stages:

1. Cervical dilation period. This is also the main stage of pain during childbirth. This stage lasts about 8-10 hours. The normal cervix is a tubular structure and is closed. During the first stage of labor, it must be fully opened, that is, to ten fingers, to allow the fetal head to pass through. We know that internal organs are very sensitive to expansion and stretching. Therefore, it takes a long and painful time for the cervix to open from a closed state to fully open to ten fingers.

2. The fetus is delivered. This stage takes about 1-2 hours. Compared with cervical dilation, fetal delivery is also painful, but it is fast and mainly requires pushing, so it is better than the first stage of labor.

3. Delivery of the placenta. This process is generally smooth. Incomplete delivery of the placenta can cause heavy bleeding, so in serious cases the doctor will remove it manually, which is scientifically called artificial placental separation.

To sum up, from the perspective of pain, natural birth is much more painful than caesarean section; but in the long run, the benefits of natural birth are much greater than those of caesarean section, so it is recommended that expectant mothers choose natural birth.
