Why is there white liquid?

The discharge of white liquid from a woman's vagina is a symptom of leucorrhea. Leucorrhea is a substance that women begin to secrete during their menstrual period. This substance is generally milky white and transparent. Once the leucorrhea turns yellow, it means that a gynecological disease has occurred, and women need to pay attention to vaginal hygiene. The discharge of white liquid from a woman's vagina is regular, and the amount of leucorrhea is related to the woman's physical constitution. Generally, the most secretion is during menstruation.

Why does white discharge come out of the vagina?

1. From the beginning of puberty, as the ovarian function of women improves, a milky white or transparent liquid will flow out of the vagina. The amount is sometimes more, sometimes less, and there is a regularity. This is leucorrhea, which has the function of keeping the vaginal mucosa moist. Leucorrhea is composed of fluids secreted by many tissues, including mucus secreted by the paraurethral glands, Bartholin's glands, cervical glands and endometrial glands, and exudate from the capillaries and lymphatic vessels in the vaginal wall. The mixed mucus contains desquamated cells of the vaginal epithelium and a small amount of white blood cells, which form leucorrhea.

2. The glands of the female cervix, endometrium and vaginal walls can continuously secrete mucus. In addition, the vaginal epithelial cells shed periodically under the action of estrogen. The shed epithelial cells and secreted mucus mix together to form a continuous leucorrhea. After puberty, leucorrhea, like menstruation, will always accompany women throughout their lives. Therefore, some people say that leucorrhea and menstruation are like a pair of "twin sisters". They not only reflect the quality of women's physical health, but are also signs of certain gynecological diseases. The difference between leucorrhea and menstruation is that menstruation only occurs once a month and "goes away" after a few days, while leucorrhea is a "permanent customer" in the vagina.

Different leucorrhea at different times

1. Puberty

The ovaries begin to develop and secrete estrogen to promote the development of the reproductive organs. At this time, leucorrhea appears.

2. During the menstrual cycle

Since the secretion of estrogen varies from time to time, the quality and quantity of leucorrhea also changes accordingly. Generally, the secretion of estrogen reaches its peak between two menstrual periods (equivalent to the ovulation period). Excessive estrogen stimulates the cervical glands to secrete more mucus, so the leucorrhea at this time is abundant, transparent, sticky like egg white and can be pulled into threads, and the vulva feels moist. At this time, the increase in leucorrhea reduces the acidity of the vagina, which is beneficial for sperm to preserve vitality and pass through the vagina smoothly. After ovulation, progesterone increases and inhibits the secretion of cervical mucus. At this time, the leucorrhea is less in amount and thicker.

3. Honeymoon period

The amount of leucorrhea secretion is closely related to the menstrual cycle, sexual thoughts and sexual activities. Women have frequent sexual intercourse during their honeymoon, which naturally stimulates increased vaginal discharge secretion.

4. Pregnancy

During pregnancy, women's menstruation temporarily stops, but their vaginal discharge increases. This is due to the effect of estrogen in women's bodies. The water in the cervix and vaginal walls and the blood in the blood vessels increase than usual, and the amount of vaginal discharge also increases.

5. Menopause

After menopause, due to the decline of ovarian function, the female body lacks estrogen, the reproductive organs atrophy, the secretion of leucorrhea gradually becomes scarce and thin, the vagina will become increasingly dry or even completely disappear.
