The harm of wearing a ring for a long time

The harm of wearing a ring for a long time

It is important to use birth control measures during sexual intercourse, especially if you do not want to have a child. We can use short-term contraception or long-term contraception. The most common method of long-term contraception for women is to insert an IUD, which we often call an IUD. The biggest concern about wearing an IUD for a long time is the harm it may cause to the body. So, what are the dangers of women wearing IUDs for a long time? Let’s take a look below.

1. IUD ectopic placement may damage other organs

Sometimes, if the IUD causes uterine perforation, the IUD may enter the abdominal cavity through the perforation and cause damage to other organs. The IUD can become displaced into the bladder, pelvis, or mesentery.

2. Wearing an IUD may cause heavy menstrual bleeding

Increased menstrual bleeding is also one of the side effects of wearing an IUD, because the materials used to make some contraceptive devices and IUDs contain copper ions. These copper ions are cytotoxic and hemolytic, which can cause increased menstrual bleeding and non-coagulation of blood.

3. Wearing an IUD may cause endometrial fibrosis

When foreign objects appear in the human body, it can cause local tissue mechanical damage, chronic inflammation, and fibrosis. When wearing an IUD, a contraceptive ring must be placed in the body, and the IUD is also a foreign object in the body, so wearing an IUD may also cause endometrial fibrosis. Generally, endometrial fibrosis will occur 10 to 12 years after the insertion of the IUD.

Can a woman get pregnant after having an IUD inserted?

Having an IUD inserted may also lead to an unexpected pregnancy. However, some people get pregnant due to the dislocation or shedding of the ring, and some people even feel uncomfortable after having it removed. If you experience lower back pain, abnormal menstrual flow, or unexplained abdominal pain after having the IUD inserted, you must go for an ultrasound, as it is likely that it is no longer effective as a contraceptive.
