What does scarred uterus mean?

The uterus is a very important reproductive organ for women. Once there is a problem in this place, it will affect normal fertility. Now that the country has relaxed the second-child policy, many families will choose to have a second child. However, during physical examinations, some women are found to have uterine scars. So, what does a scarred uterus mean? Let’s take a look below.

A scarred uterus is a uterus that has undergone a cesarean section. To put it simply, after the surgery, there is a large scar on the uterus. In addition, surgeries such as metroplasty, uterine perforation, intramural myomectomy, rupture repair, etc. are also common causes of uterine scars.

Women with a scarred uterus may experience uterine rupture, placenta previa, postpartum hemorrhage, or even catastrophic placenta previa after pregnancy. If a pregnant woman with a scarred uterus undergoes a cesarean section to give birth, the chances of intestinal and bladder injuries, infections, adhesions, and poor wound healing will increase, which will have adverse effects on both the mother and the fetus.

It is more difficult to get pregnant if you have a scarred uterus or have undergone surgery on the uterus. If you become pregnant, you are more likely to have an ectopic pregnancy or uterine rupture. It is recommended to have a prenatal check-up and follow the doctor's instructions to make relevant preparations to reduce the risks of childbirth. In the later stages of pregnancy, pay attention to the number of fetal movements, which should be 3 to 5 times per hour. At the same time, you should usually maintain a positive, optimistic, peaceful and happy mood.

The harm of uterine scar

1. Harm in early pregnancy: When the placenta implants at the scar of the last cesarean section, it is very likely to cause uterine rupture. It is best to terminate the pregnancy at this time.

2. Hazards in mid-pregnancy: When the incisional pregnancy is not terminated in time, the longer the embryo is, the larger the scar will be, which will directly lead to uterine damage.

3. Hazards in late pregnancy: About 28 weeks after pregnancy, the placenta can move to the scar and deep into the uterus, which is medically known as dangerous placenta previa. It is very difficult to treat clinically and often requires hysterectomy, otherwise it will lead to maternal death.

4. Dangers of delivery: If the uterus is scarred and tears occur during delivery, it can easily cause uterine rupture and postpartum hemorrhage. If not treated in time, it may endanger the mother's life.

Can a woman with a scarred uterus give birth naturally?

If a woman with a uterine scar becomes pregnant, she can choose to give birth to the baby naturally. Normally, if the following conditions are met. Mothers with low uterine cross-section and no contraindications to vaginal delivery can undergo a trial vaginal delivery:

1. A previous cesarean section with low-profile cesarean section if conventional or sigmoid incision or extensive endometrial surgery was not suitable for delivery;

2. The pelvic diameter is shown to be large enough, usually larger than 15 cm;

3. No uterine scar or uterine rupture in the past, or two uterine scars and no vaginal delivery;

4. During the entire natural delivery period, the doctor can attend the delivery at any time and perform an emergency cesarean section;

5. Anesthesia can be given immediately and emergency cesarean section personnel are available at any time.
