Do long naps increase dementia risk?

The weather is getting cooler, autumn is approaching, and autumn fatigue is becoming more and more severe. During the lunch break on weekdays, more and more people are "sleeping soundly" at their desks. A good nap can help us relieve fatigue and get more sleep, but we need to be careful not to nap for too long. Napping too long will affect our normal sleep at night and may even increase the risk of dementia.

Studies have found that excessive napping during the day increases the risk of dementia. And as we age, if we unfortunately suffer from dementia, its symptoms also include increased napping time, and this "two-way running" may cause our health to suffer greater adverse effects.

We also need to note that taking a nap that is too long not only increases the risk of dementia, but also has bad effects on our mental state. If we take a nap for 1 to 2 hours, it is easy for us to fall into a deep sleep. At this time, we are suddenly awakened by the alarm, and sleep inertia occurs, that is, we wake up but not fully, our heads feel heavy, and we have no energy to do anything all day long.

Therefore, we must be careful when taking naps. It is best to take a nap at a fixed time period of 13:00~14:00, and the time should be controlled within 20 to 40 minutes. Do not "make up for sleep" after 3 pm, otherwise it will be difficult to fall asleep at night, and it may disrupt the sleep rhythm in the long run, resulting in "inability to fall asleep at night and unable to wake up during the day". And do not eat too much before a nap, and go to bed half an hour after lunch, otherwise it may cause discomfort to our stomach. We must also pay attention to sleeping posture, do not take a nap on your stomach, as this may cause discomfort to our brain. We should also take a nap in a place with good air flow, and if you turn on the air conditioner, you need to keep warm.
