What to expect after a cervical biopsy

What to expect after a cervical biopsy

Cervical biopsy is a common medical method. This medical method is to extract living tissue from the cervix for examination to determine cervical disease. However, women who have undergone cervical biopsy should pay attention to vaginal hygiene, get more rest, not have sexual intercourse within a month, avoid strenuous exercise, and take medication for one or two weeks. Therefore, friends who have undergone cervical biopsy can learn about the precautions after the operation.

What to expect after a cervical biopsy

1. Precautions after cervical biopsy

Avoid sexual intercourse for one month after the examination. The biopsy site may bleed, and sexual intercourse can easily induce inflammation and infection. Pay attention to hygiene and wash your genitals every day, first wash the front genitals, then wash the back genitals, and use a special towel. Pay attention to rest and avoid squatting, standing for a long time or doing strenuous exercise. Under the guidance of a doctor, take anti-inflammatory and hemostatic drugs for one to two weeks as a course of treatment. Eat a light diet and avoid spicy, raw, cold and other irritating foods.

2. What is cervical biopsy?

A cervical biopsy is a biopsy of the cervix, which means taking a small piece or several pieces of tissue from the cervix for pathological examination to confirm the diagnosis. It is mostly used when the cervix is suspected of cancer or there are suspicious cells in the cervical scraping. A cervical biopsy can confirm the diagnosis and determine treatment. Cervical biopsy is the most reliable basis for diagnosing cervical cancer. Whether it is early or late stage cervical cancer, this examination must be performed to determine the pathological type and degree of cell differentiation of the cancer.

3. How is cervical biopsy performed?

The cervical biopsy procedure is simple. After disinfecting the vulva, vagina, and cervix, use a special biopsy forceps to take several small pieces of tissue according to the location of the lesion and requirements, fix them in 10% formalin solution, send them to the pathology department for sectioning, stain them, observe and analyze them under a microscope, and then make a pathological diagnosis.

What are the common diseases of the cervix?

Cervical erosion

Cervical erosion refers to the shedding of the epidermis at the external os of the cervix and its replacement by another epithelial tissue at the os of the cervix. Because the new epithelium covering the surface is too thin, even blood vessels and red tissue can be seen, which looks similar to real erosion, hence the name cervical erosion. It is mainly caused by miscarriage, infection during delivery or various reasons that lead to cervical damage, invasion of pathogens and infection, which eventually leads to cervical erosion.

Cervicitis

Cervicitis often occurs in women of childbearing age. There are two types of cervicitis: acute cervicitis and chronic cervicitis, of which chronic cervicitis is more common. Inflammation stimulates the cervix, leading to cervical erosion, which is mainly manifested by increased vaginal discharge, which is purulent or accompanied by blood. It is mainly caused by pathogens such as Escherichia coli, Streptococcus, Staphylococcus and anaerobic bacteria, and may also be caused by radiation and chemicals.

Cervical polyps

Cervical polyps are a type of chronic cervicitis. The stimulation of long-term chronic inflammation leads to hyperplasia of the local cervical canal mucosa. At the same time, due to the rejection of the uterus, the hyperplastic mucosa will gradually protrude from the cervical opening, thus forming polyps.

Cervical hypertrophy

The occurrence of cervical hypertrophy is also caused by the stimulation of long-term chronic inflammation. The congestion and edema of the cervix, and the hyperplasia of the stroma and glands will cause the cervix to hypertrophy to varying degrees. Simple cervical hypertrophy will not cause infertility, but when the condition is serious, it will cause salpingo-oophoritis, endometritis, fallopian tube adhesions and blockage, leading to infertility.

Cervical gland cyst

Cervical glandular cyst refers to a small vesicle protruding from the surface of the cervix, which is often bluish white.

Women suffering from cervicitis, cervical polyps, cervical erosion, cervical hypertrophy, cervical gland cysts and other cervical diseases may be caused by precancerous lesions. Therefore, patients should actively seek diagnosis and treatment to avoid the aggravation or spread of inflammation and the possibility of serious lesions.
