Can I get pregnant if I have sex a week before my period?

Many young girls do not understand their menstrual cycle, safe period, ovulation period, etc., so they are very worried and afraid of getting pregnant without contraception. Can they get pregnant if they have sex a week before their period? Women with stable menstrual periods have stable ovulation periods and safe periods every month. The week before menstruation is a safe period for women, so the chance of getting pregnant during this period is very small.

1. Will I get pregnant if I have sex a week before my period?

The safe period is indeed a method of contraception, also called natural contraception. It does not use any drugs, tools or surgical methods. It is a method for women to adapt to the natural physiological laws and use different physiological signals to identify whether they are in the "fertile period" or "infertile period", thereby choosing the date of sexual intercourse to achieve the purpose of contraception. There is indeed a saying among the people that there is a seven-day period before and eight-day period after menstruation, which means that there is no ovulation in the seven days before menstruation and eight days after menstruation (counted from the first day of menstruation), which is a relatively safe period for sexual intercourse.

But this statement only applies to women whose menstruation is very regular and whose menstrual cycle is 28 to 30 days. For women with short menstrual cycles, this "back eight" is absolutely unreliable. Women's menstrual cycles vary, ranging from as short as 21 days to as long as 37 days, which are all within the normal physiological range. But no matter how long the menstrual cycle is, the date of ovulation is relatively fixed, generally occurring 14 days before the next menstruation. The egg can survive for 1 to 2 days after being released from the ovary. Its fertilization ability is strongest 24 hours after ovulation. Sperm can survive in the female reproductive tract for 3 to 5 days. Therefore, the 4 to 5 days before and after ovulation are considered to be the fertile period. If a girl's menstrual cycle is 27 days, then the ovulation day should be the 13th day. If she has sex on the 8th day after her period, the sperm that enters the female body at this time can survive for up to 5 days. If she waits for ovulation just before her period ends, she may become pregnant.

2. Is the safe period really safe?

1. The safe period contraceptive method is a physiological contraceptive method. The specific operation method is to stop sexual intercourse during the ovulation period. It does not require other drugs or instruments and has no harm or side effects to human health. However, safe period contraception is not 100% effective.

2. A woman's ovaries release a mature egg every month. After the egg is released, it enters the fallopian tube and can generally survive for 1-2 days. The sperm produced by men is continuous. Sperm can usually survive in the female reproductive tract for 2-3 days, and its ability to cause pregnancy is around 48 hours. If you have sex within a certain period of time before and after ovulation, you may become pregnant.

3. Due to the difficulty in mastering the ovulation period, the effectiveness of safe period contraception is only 65%-95% (95% effectiveness can only be achieved under accurate prediction, and accurate prediction of ovulation requires professional training). The effectiveness of safe period contraception varies greatly because women may ovulate at any time of the month, and the ovulation period is different in different months. Due to changes in personal physique, climate, diet, mood, environment, hormones in the body, etc., the ovulation period often fluctuates, and even extra ovulation may occur, resulting in a high contraceptive failure rate.
