Will postpartum urinary incontinence heal naturally?

Although the current medical technology is very advanced and childbirth is no longer a dangerous thing, there are still many complications after childbirth, so it is a very great thing for women to become pregnant and give birth. Some women will experience urinary incontinence after giving birth. Will postpartum urinary incontinence heal naturally? Here we will tell you the causes of postpartum urinary incontinence and recovery methods.

1. Causes of postpartum urinary incontinence

In general, this is related to the unique physiological structure of women.

The female body structure is very complex. The pelvic floor, which is composed of three parts: the internal pelvic fascia, the pelvic diaphragm and the perineum, is directly connected to the uterus, bladder and internal organs. When healthy, the pelvic floor and internal organs support each other tightly. Even if the abdominal pressure increases, the internal organs will not press down on the bladder and urethra, and will not cause urinary incontinence. However, the pelvic floor is supported by organs such as the uterus. Therefore, when the condition of the uterus changes, the pelvic floor, internal organs, and even the bladder and urethra will be affected.

The reason why many mothers suffer from urinary incontinence after childbirth is that the uterus enlarges and abdominal pressure increases during pregnancy, causing the vagina to relax, and during delivery, the pelvic floor muscles and nerves will be damaged to a certain extent. The combination of these factors weakens the mother's control over the urethra, causing urine leakage when the abdominal pressure suddenly increases in the future. Mothers who experience difficult labor will suffer from more severe postpartum urinary incontinence symptoms.

Some of you may have questions, does a cesarean section prevent postpartum urinary incontinence? The answer is no. Because in addition to childbirth, pregnancy is also an important cause of damage to the pelvic floor muscles and supporting ligaments. However, clinical studies have shown that the incidence of postpartum urinary incontinence after vaginal delivery is significantly higher than that after cesarean section, and primiparas who give birth naturally are more likely to experience this phenomenon than multiparas.

2. Will postpartum urinary incontinence recover on its own?

Mild enuresis after childbirth can recover on its own. The mother can improve the enuresis condition by doing some regular recovery exercises. For example, you can do vaginal tightening exercises frequently. The mother can lie flat on the bed and then tighten the vagina and anus forcefully. If you keep doing this exercise for a period of time every day, the enuresis condition will be effectively treated and improved, and the symptoms will gradually disappear. If it is severe enuresis, it will require medication or physical therapy to recover.

Postpartum enuresis is caused by the compression load exerted on the pelvis after the fetus enters it. In addition, the pelvis has not recovered well after delivery, so it becomes loose and unable to contract, which leads to the symptom of enuresis. Enuresis can be divided into mild and severe. When a mother coughs or sneezes, the bladder pressure increases and urination becomes uncontrolled. This is mild enuresis. Severe enuresis is not controlled by stimulation and the urine cannot be held.

Generally, one week after delivery, the mother can improve the enuresis condition by resuming exercise. Mothers can also adjust their diet and eat more foods that replenish qi and blood, which can also improve the condition of enuresis.
