Why is menstruation delayed?

Why is menstruation delayed?

Delayed menstruation will make people feel very panic, and may induce many diseases. In fact, this is the symptom of irregular menstruation. Therefore, we must find the root cause of the disease. Some patients are caused by their bad habits in daily life. At this time, they should change their living habits and slowly develop good living habits.

Normal menstruation is an important sign of physical health for mature women. When many women have menstrual disorders, they only consider gynecological diseases such as uterine hypoplasia, acute and chronic pelvic inflammatory disease, and uterine fibroids, but ignore looking for causes outside the uterus. Little do you know that many bad habits and factors may also lead to menstrual disorders.

Emotional disorders causing menstrual disorders

Abnormal emotions, long-term mental depression, sulking, or severe mental stimulation and psychological trauma can all lead to menstrual disorders or dysmenorrhea or amenorrhea. This is because menstruation is caused by the stimulation of the endometrium by hormones secreted by the ovaries, and the hormones secreted by the ovaries are controlled by the release of hormones from the pituitary gland and hypothalamus. Therefore, any abnormality in the function of the ovaries, pituitary gland, or hypothalamus will affect menstruation.

Cold stimulation causes oligomenorrhea or even amenorrhea

According to research, women who are exposed to cold during menstruation will experience excessive contraction of blood vessels in the pelvis, which can cause oligomenorrhea or even amenorrhea. Therefore, women should have a regular daily life, avoid excessive fatigue, and especially keep away from cold and damp during menstruation.

Diet causes menstrual irregularities

Expert studies on excessive dieting show that girls need body fat to account for at least 17% of their body weight to experience menarche, and body fat must reach at least 22% of their body weight to maintain a normal menstrual cycle. Excessive dieting will cause a large amount of fat and protein in the body to be consumed due to insufficient energy intake, resulting in estrogen synthesis disorders and obvious deficiency, affecting menstruation, or even causing scanty menstruation or amenorrhea. Therefore, women who pursue a slim figure must not diet blindly.

Irregular menstruation caused by smoking and drinking

Certain components in tobacco smoke and alcohol can interfere with physiological processes related to menstruation and cause menstrual disorders. Among women who smoke and drink excessively, 25%-32% go to the hospital for treatment due to irregular menstruation. Among women who smoke more than one pack of cigarettes a day or drink more than 100 mg of strong liquor, the incidence of irregular menstruation is three times that of women who do not smoke or drink. Therefore, women should not smoke and drink less alcohol.

Gynecological diseases causing irregular menstruation

1. Local - that is, caused by its own factors. Common ones include uterine fibroids, especially submucosal uterine fibroids. Even small fibroids can cause menstrual disorders and excessive menstruation; the second most common ones are adenomyosis and pelvic endometriosis. Due to factors such as the growth of the endometrium into the uterine muscle wall and the enlargement of the uterus, the menstrual flow is often heavier.

2. Systemic factors mainly cause simple menorrhagia when the body is in a high estrogen state.

3. Other reasons include:

①Hematological diseases, such as thrombocytopenia, poor coagulation function and other bleeding diseases;

② Liver disease, hypertension, diabetes, etc. lead to increased vascular fragility and poor coagulation;

③The first menstrual flow after childbirth or miscarriage may be heavy;

④The use of hormones, anticoagulants, etc. can also cause excessive menstrual flow at one time. Whenever the menstrual flow is heavy, the cause should be found out to avoid chronic hemorrhagic anemia and harm to health.
