How often should women change their IUDs?

There are many ways of contraception in life. For women, compared with the side effects of birth control pills, the contraceptive effect of choosing an IUD will be better. Moreover, the contraceptive effect of the IUD is better and the side effects are smaller than those of the birth control pill. If you are not planning to have a child in the long term, you can choose to use an IUD. But you should pay attention to the duration of use of the IUD. So how often should women change their IUDs after having them inserted?

1. How often should the IUD be changed after insertion is mainly determined by the material of the IUD. If it is a plastic IUD, it needs to be replaced once every 5 years clinically. If it is a metal IUD, most of them need to be replaced once every 10 years. Regardless of the type of IUD you use, it is recommended that you have an inspection once a year to see if the IUD has shifted or fallen off. In addition, the Mirena IUD, which has both contraceptive and therapeutic effects in clinical practice, is also replaced once every five years. If you plan to become pregnant during the replacement period, you can remove it at any time.

2. Generally, if the IUD has expired, it should be replaced. If the IUD has expired, it may easily cause pregnancy while the woman is still wearing it, and some people may also experience irregular vaginal bleeding. The usage period of the ring is regulated as follows: different contraceptive rings have different usage periods. For example, the Mirena ring lasts for 5 years, so it needs to be replaced after 5 years. This is because the drug ingredients in the ring only last for 5 years. The T-ring lasts 8-10 years, the Yuangong ring lasts generally 10 years, and the Gini ring also generally lasts 10 years. In our country, most of the IUDs are copper-ion-containing, and most of these IUDs last for 8-10 years. In addition, the maternal cycle lasts for 5-8 years.

3. The length of time that the IUD can be placed in the uterine cavity depends mainly on the type of IUD. Stainless steel IUDs can be placed for 15-20 years, or even longer, and some can be used as a lifelong contraceptive tool. Plastic rings are prone to aging and hardening; the copper wire in the copper IUD can dissolve and even break, so it is stipulated that it can be placed for 3-5 years; silicone rubber IUDs are more resistant to aging than plastic rings and can be placed for a longer time. Pay attention to the cleanliness of the vulva to prevent infection. It is strictly forbidden to participate in heavy physical labor within one week after the IUD is inserted, and sexual intercourse is prohibited within three weeks. Please note that you should rest in bed within 3 days after the IUD is inserted.
