What to do if a pregnant woman has a urinary tract infection

Because the female urethral opening is wider than the male urethral opening, women are more likely to suffer from urinary tract infection. If they suffer from urinary tract infection, they should go to the hospital in time to take certain measures for treatment. During pregnancy, the immune system of pregnant women will be reduced, so pregnant women are more likely to suffer from urinary tract infections. However, you cannot blindly use medication during pregnancy, so what should pregnant women do if they suffer from urinary tract infection?

1. Drink more water, at least 8 glasses of water a day. Do not hold your urine, empty your bladder completely when you urinate.

2. Wipe from front to back after defecation to prevent bacteria in the stool from being brought near the urethra.

3. Wash your vulva every day with mild soap and water to keep it clean. Avoid using feminine hygiene products or strong alkaline soaps that can irritate the urethra and genitals, which can make the genitals more susceptible to bacterial growth.

4. Exercise restraint in sexual intercourse, especially in the first three months after pregnancy and before delivery. Sexual intercourse should be avoided as much as possible. Even if there is occasional sexual intercourse, both men and women (and both parties) should clean their sexual organs and vulva. The woman should also urinate once after intercourse to flush the urethra with urine to reduce the chance of urinary tract infection.

5. Change and wash your underwear frequently, and wear pure cotton underwear and pure cotton crotch pantyhose.

6. Sleeping on the left side. In the middle and late stages of pregnancy, the enlarged uterus will compress the bilateral ureters when lying in the supine position, causing urine to retain and make it easy to get infected. Lying on the side, especially on the left side, can relieve the pressure of the uterus on the ureter, which is not only beneficial for the smooth flow of urine and the prevention of urinary tract infection, but also beneficial for increasing the blood supply to the fetus.

7. Go to the hospital regularly for routine urine tests. Even if there are no symptoms of urinary tract infection, urine should be checked every half month or at most once a month to detect changes in urine in time and get treatment. Once the disease occurs, choose appropriate medications for active treatment under the guidance of a doctor.

9. Go to the hospital for urine routine examination, urine bacterial culture and drug sensitivity test. Find out what kind of bacteria is infecting the urinary tract and what antibiotics the bacteria is sensitive to. Then take appropriate measures based on the specific circumstances of the inspection results. In this way, we will not use drugs blindly, but will be able to take targeted measures, greatly improving the clinical cure rate.
