Follicle growth rate

Follicle growth rate

For women, follicles are of great importance. As long as there are abnormalities in the follicles, it will be difficult for people to conceive. Of course, follicles also have a certain growth cycle. Generally speaking, follicles grow once a month. Of course, follicles also have different growth rates. Below, we will introduce you in detail the growth rate of follicles and other related knowledge!

1. What is a follicle?

The follicle is composed of the oocyte and follicle cells. Follicular development is a continuous growth process, which can generally be divided into four stages: primordial follicles, primary follicles, secondary follicles and mature follicles. Primary follicles and secondary follicles are collectively called growing follicles.

In the past, we generally believed that the development from primordial follicle to mature ovulation is completed within one menstrual cycle. However, recent studies have shown that the growth rate of follicles is actually very slow, and it takes several menstrual cycles for a primordial follicle to develop into mature ovulation.

Second, the growth rate of follicles

The growth rate of follicles is actually determined based on the morphological and functional changes in the follicle development process itself. This situation can include three stages: primordial follicles, growing follicles, and mature follicles. At this time, the follicles develop very quickly, the follicular phase will be shortened, menstruation will be frequent, and it is very likely that multiple menstruation will occur, so even if it is discovered, it should be checked in time.

Ultrasound can reveal small follicles in the ovaries on the 3rd to 5th day of the menstrual cycle. These follicles gradually grow larger, reaching their largest size on the 14th day on average, and ovulation can occur. From the 5th day of menstruation to before ovulation, the primary follicle grows an average of 1.5mm per day; before the 10th day, it grows an average of 1.2mm per day; 4 days before ovulation, it grows an average of 1.9mm until the follicle matures.

3. Causes of follicular dysplasia

If the follicles are poorly developed, they will not ovulate normally or the quality of the eggs discharged will be poor, which will affect normal conception. Even if the sperm and egg combine, miscarriage, stillbirth, etc. may easily occur. Therefore, women with poor follicular development should pay attention to it and go to a regular hospital for examination and treatment in time. In the case of poor development of follicles, it is necessary to check and actively treat it. Failure to ovulate normally or poor quality of the eggs discharged will affect normal conception and fertility. In order to avoid infertility, timely detection, timely inspection and timely treatment are the key.
