Post-cesarean section bowel movement

Post-cesarean section bowel movement

The main reason for constipation after cesarean section is due to internal heat. Since many women receive too much nutritional supplements after cesarean section, the heat in the body increases, which can lead to symptoms of constipation. In the case of constipation after cesarean section, we should let the mother drink more water and eat less hot food. She should not eat too many supplements as they are very hot, and she should eat more vegetables.

1. For those who undergo episiotomy or instrumental delivery, the incision will be painful. In particular, improper perineal suture and rectal perforation may lead to failure to detect and treat the problem in time, resulting in abnormal and severe anal pain after surgery.

2. Perineal tear, especially third-degree perineal tear and external anal sphincter injury.

3. Patients with concurrent lesions such as hemorrhoids or rectal polyps.

4. Those with a history of constipation, especially those with a habit of constipation during pregnancy, may usually continue to have constipation after delivery.

5. Those who stay in bed for too long and have less activity after giving birth.

6. Prolonged labor or delayed labor, especially a prolonged second stage of labor, and extreme fatigue of the mother.

7. Pain from cesarean section incision.

8. Temporary inability to defecate due to mental tension, unfamiliarity or lack of confidence in one's bowel movements.

9. Various anesthetic drugs were used during delivery, which inhibited intestinal peristalsis and affected defecation.

10. Bad eating habits, eating a lot of indigestible food before and after delivery, such as eggs, sweets, etc., and lack of vitamins in the food.

11. A large amount of body fluids are consumed during the delivery process, and there is a lot of sweating after delivery. Failure to replenish them in time leads to water and electrolyte disorders, especially for those with low potassium.

How long does it take to defecate after cesarean section

If nothing unexpected happens, women who have undergone cesarean section will be able to defecate on their own about 6 days after the operation. If a woman cannot pass stool normally and smoothly after surgery, it is considered difficult to defecate. If the mother cannot defecate normally, then doing the following points may help with defecation.

1. In terms of choosing food, mothers who have undergone caesarean section can eat more green organic vegetables, drink plenty of water, and also drink some fruits that can moisturize the intestines and promote bowel movements, such as honey water, bananas, etc.

2. Mothers should also do appropriate exercise after giving birth. For new mothers who have undergone cesarean section and have no complications, they can try to do some light indoor activities on the second day after giving birth. However, if the new mother shows any abnormal conditions, she should follow the doctor's advice and lie down in bed to rest, and should not get out of bed and walk around too early.

3. If a mother cannot defecate normally for a long time after giving birth, she must ask her obstetrician. She can take some Chinese patent medicine to relieve constipation.

It is normal to experience difficulty in defecation such as weak stool due to the wound after cesarean section. In the face of these symptoms, it is recommended that mothers start with diet. In the week after a cesarean section, the mother will have a very hard time due to the wound. It is important to understand this aspect when choosing a cesarean section before giving birth.
