What to eat in the first week of confinement

For mothers, the process of childbirth requires high physical exertion, and childbirth often leads to excessive blood loss and weakened gastrointestinal function. Mothers often experience gastrointestinal weakness, indigestion and loss of appetite after delivery, which can usually be recovered through food supplements in the first week after delivery. So what should you eat in the first week of confinement? In the first week after delivery, the mother should eat some light and easily digestible confinement meals.

Generally speaking, it takes about 24 hours for the gastrointestinal function of a mother to recover after delivery, and she should not eat before the gastrointestinal function recovers. After the mother's gastrointestinal function returns to normal, she should be given liquid food for one day, such as egg soup and rice soup, and avoid eating gas-producing foods such as milk, soy milk, and large amounts of sucrose. Two days after delivery, when the intestinal gas is discharged, you can switch to semi-liquid food for 1 to 2 days, such as porridge, noodle soup, wontons, etc. These foods are relatively simple to make and nutritious. Then switch to normal diet. The details are as follows:

1. Initially, you can take chicken soup, meat soup, fish soup and other soups as tonic, but do not add wine. (Be sure to skim off the greasy fat on the soup)

2. Pork liver helps to discharge lochia and replenish blood, and is the best solid food choice for postpartum women.

3. Desserts can also help eliminate lochia.

4. Mothers with poor uterine contraction can take avocado oil to help smooth muscle contraction and improve constipation.

5. Fish and vitamin C help wound healing.

6. Due to heavy blood loss, mothers should eat more iron-containing foods to replenish blood.

7. Chinese medicinal materials such as astragalus, wolfberry, and red dates can be added to medicinal dietary supplements.
