Breast pain when baby is breastfeeding

Breast pain when baby is breastfeeding

We have to admit that being a mother is indeed a very difficult process. Because whether it is preparing for pregnancy or postpartum, it will bring many problems to the mother. For postpartum women, the most serious problem they face is breastfeeding. Because during the breastfeeding process, various phenomena are always likely to occur. Some mothers find that their breasts are very painful when their babies suck milk. Are there any ways to relieve it?

1. Massage your breasts before breastfeeding

Before feeding your baby, you can apply a hot towel to the nipples and areola for a few minutes, and at the same time massage the surrounding breast tissue to stimulate milk secretion and squeeze out some milk. This will soften the areola and make it easier for the baby to suck.

2. Correct breastfeeding posture

The correct breastfeeding posture can reduce the pain during feeding. When the baby holds the nipple and the mother feels uncomfortable, she can put her little finger into the baby's mouth, gently pry open the baby's upper and lower jaws, and pull out the nipple. This can be repeated until the baby has latched on to the entire areola and the mother feels comfortable.

3. Don’t pull out the nipple directly when you stop breastfeeding

If you have finished feeding or need to stop breastfeeding, first press the baby's lower jaw gently with your fingers, so that the baby will automatically protrude the nipple. Never pull out the nipple forcibly, as this will damage the nipple.

4. How to deal with nipple cracks

If your nipples are already cracked, squeeze out some milk and apply it to your nipples and areola after breastfeeding to help heal the cracked nipples.

5. Choice of bra

Breastfeeding mothers should choose suitable bras. It is best to wear loose and cotton ones and change underwear frequently.
