Weight gain in early pregnancy

Weight gain in early pregnancy

As the pregnancy progresses, the weight of the pregnant woman will gradually increase. This is mainly due to the nutritional supplementation of the pregnant woman's body and the increase in the body size of the fetus in the belly. However, the rate of weight gain of the pregnant woman is different in each period of pregnancy. Only by firmly grasping the weight gain standard of pregnant women can we infer whether the body is at a normal level. So what is the weight gain standard for pregnant women in early pregnancy?

Weight gain during pregnancy:

The weight of a pregnant woman before pregnancy is measured based on a scientific term called BMI. The value of BMI is determined by height and weight. The calculation formula is weight divided by height squared. Weight is in kilograms and height is in meters.

When the BMI value is less than 18.5, normal weight gain during pregnancy is less than 13 kg;

When the value is between 18.5 and 25, the normal weight gain range is 8-10;

When BMI is greater than 25 and less than or equal to 30, the normal range is between 5-7 kg;

If the BMI value is greater than 30, pregnant women should consult their doctor about the normal range of weight gain during pregnancy.

How is BMI calculated?

The BMI value was originally designed as a statistical tool for public health research.

Body mass index (BMI) = weight (kg) ÷ height^2 (m)

EX: 70kg÷(1.75×1.75)=22.86

Standard weight gain during pregnancy

Therefore, the most ideal weight gain is:

Gain 2 kg in early pregnancy (within 3 months of pregnancy),

During the middle stage (3-6 months of pregnancy) and the late stage (7-9 months of pregnancy), you gain 5 kg each, for a total of 12 kg.

If you gain more than 20 kilograms during the entire pregnancy or the pregnant woman's weight exceeds 80 kilograms, it is a dangerous signal.
