Things to note before gynecological examination

Gynecological examination is a method that every female friend needs to check in her life, especially female friends who have sex. Paying attention to the hygiene of the vagina and uterus can avoid gynecological diseases. You cannot drink water during a gynecological examination, avoid examinations during menstruation, and refrain from sexual intercourse and vaginal douching. Then relax and have your vagina checked using B-ultrasound.

Things to note before gynecological examination

As we all know, gynecological examinations are relatively secretive compared to other examinations because the person being examined may feel uncomfortable or even embarrassed during the examination. Therefore, gynecological examination is also what many women are most reluctant to face. In fact, this is a very common process. To know how to change your mindset and complete an effective gynecological examination, you must master the precautions before the gynecological examination.

1. Choose the right time

Gynecological examinations are not performed during menstruation because the wounds on the endometrium during menstruation make it easy for bacteria to enter during examination and cause or aggravate inflammation of the endometrium and other reproductive organs. In addition, in a few people, endometrial fragments shed during period may be squeezed into the uterine muscle wall, fallopian tubes and even the pelvic cavity during gynecological examinations, and the resulting endometriosis will aggravate dysmenorrhea. The best time to check is 3-7 days after the end of menstruation. If you have had sex or are over 20 years old, you need to have a gynecological examination every year; if you have not had sex, you should go to the hospital for examination in time when you feel unwell. You need to empty your bladder when doing a gynecological examination; B-ultrasound of the liver, gallbladder, and pancreas generally requires fasting; you must get a good rest before the physical examination; and you are required to adjust your examination frequency accordingly if blood is drawn before breakfast.

2. Vaginal douching is prohibited

Vaginal douching should be prohibited before a gynecological examination, as potential cancer cells that can only be obtained through sampling will be washed away by douching. The vulva can be cleaned with clean water the day before the examination.

3. Prohibition of sexual intercourse between husband and wife

The couple should refrain from sexual intercourse the day before a gynecological examination, because sexual intercourse will not only affect the vaginal environment, but also residual semen will be mixed in the extracted biopsy samples, thereby confusing some abnormal cells and affecting the examination results.

4. Avoid using vaginal medications

Vaginal medications should be avoided before a gynecological examination to avoid affecting the biopsy samples and covering up abnormal cells, which will affect the examination results.

5. Soothe your emotions and relax your mood

Because gynecological examinations require checking private parts, answering embarrassing questions, and fear that the examination may cause harm, nervousness, shyness and fear become common symptoms for most people before gynecological examinations. In fact, gynecological examination is not scary. Don't be nervous during the examination. Tight abdominal and pelvic floor muscles are not conducive to the doctor's examination.

6. Prepare your medical records and inform your doctor of your physical condition in a timely manner

Before going to the hospital, review your medical condition and tell the doctor accurately, such as the specific time of menarche, last delivery, bleeding, menopause, and previous surgery. Especially those with menstrual disorders must remember the menstrual cycle and period time in the past six months. It is best to bring a basal body temperature meter. For those with no sexual history, vaginal speculum examination and bimanual examination are prohibited, and rectal-abdominal examination should be performed instead. Women who do not have sexual life should remember to inform their doctor before the examination.

7. During the examination, it is best to wear simple clothes to reduce the trouble of taking off. People with bleeding symptoms should not wear makeup before seeing a doctor.

8. Make both material and mental preparations, and it is best to have family members accompany you.

9. Inform your history of drug allergy in advance and keep your doctor’s advice in mind.
