What to do when you are angry and have stomachache

People must control their emotions in normal times, because emotions have a greater impact on the body. Emotions can cause a person to feel very stressed out. Emotions can cause people to feel pain in the brain. The body's qi and blood filling the brain can also cause stomach pain. When a person's stomach is not in good condition, if they get too angry, it can cause stomach pain. This is the brain's emotional control at work.

Theory of "Stomach Yin"

From the perspective of traditional Chinese medicine, anger is caused by excessive liver fire. Ye Tianshi, a famous doctor in the Qing Dynasty, proposed the "stomach yin" theory. He pointed out that people with excessive liver fire often suffer from liver fire damaging stomach yin. Therefore, if your symptoms are stomach pain, bloating, nausea, and bad mood, this is probably the case and your stomach needs nourishment.

Belly-brain theory

In 1998, Michael Gershorn, a neurologist at Columbia University in New York, USA, believed that "when you are angry, your stomach hurts because there is a brain in your stomach." He called it the "abdominal brain." The "abdominal brain" controls the normal functioning of our body at the same time as the brain. The abdominal brain mainly controls the gastrointestinal reactions of the human body. When some people are stimulated by external factors, their cerebral and abdominal brains react at the same time. The brain causes people's emotions to change, and people become angry. At the same time, the secretion of adrenaline increases, breathing speeds up, heart rate accelerates, pupils dilate, and blood vessels constrict. "Abdominal brain" causes the body's gastric acid to continuously increase secretion, and loss of appetite causes you to lack food to neutralize the gastric acid in the stomach. In the long run, this can lead to gastric ulcers.

Sympathetic nerve excitement

The autonomic nervous system regulates and controls the internal organs through two systems: the sympathetic nervous system and the parasympathetic nervous system. When we are angry, the emotional center is excited, and the sympathetic center will also be excited. The heart smooth muscles, respiratory muscles, sweat glands, etc. controlled by the sympathetic nerves will undergo a series of physiological changes, manifested as physiological symptoms such as increased heartbeat, rapid breathing, and sweaty palms.

However, after we get angry, it takes some time for emotions to recover, and the autonomic nervous system is still in an excited state. At this time, gastrointestinal activity is still inhibited, so we will feel unwilling to eat or have stomach discomfort after getting angry. Occasionally, after getting angry or losing your temper once or twice, you may just lose your appetite or feel stomach discomfort, but over time, it will cause diseases such as gastric ulcers or chronic gastritis.

As the saying goes, anger is harmful to your health, so I would like to remind everyone not to get angry.
