How many days does it take for lochia to be discharged?

Every woman will discharge lochia after giving birth. Although lochia looks very disgusting, it is very beneficial to the body. After a woman gives birth, a lot of embryonic tissue will remain inside her reproductive organs, which needs to be completely expelled from the body by discharging lochia. At every time period, the types of lochia discharged from the female body are different. Generally speaking, how long does the lochia discharge last?

Types of lochia

1. Bloody lochia

The secretions discharged by the mother within 1 to 4 days after delivery are red or dark red in color because they contain more blood. The amount is also relatively large, about the same as the normal menstrual volume, or slightly more than the menstrual volume. Sometimes it contains blood clots and has a bloody smell. When a woman gets up for the first time or after a long period of bed rest, when she gets out of bed suddenly, a lot of blood may suddenly flow out of her vagina. This is a normal phenomenon and the woman does not need to worry too much.

2. Serous lochia

It is discharged about 5 to 10 days after delivery. It is light red in color and contains a small amount of blood, mucus and more vaginal secretions. At this time, due to bacterial growth, the smell will be stronger, but it is still within the normal range.

2. White lochia

It is discharged about 10 days after delivery. It is white or yellowish lochia, which contains white blood cells, decidual cells, epidermal cells and bacteria. It is shaped like leucorrhea, but more than usual.

Normal time for lochia to clear

Generally, after giving birth, the time when a woman's body begins to discharge lochia is different in each stage. Generally speaking, it takes 2 to 3 weeks for a woman to discharge lochia, and usually does not exceed 3 weeks. However, a few women may still have a little brown lochia one month later. This is because the hormones produced by the ovaries during the postpartum recovery process cause the endometrium to proliferate and then peel off, resulting in the lochia mixing with menstruation.

At this point, mothers after childbirth all know how long it takes for the lochia to clear up. Finally, mothers must keep a happy mood and stable emotions, and pay attention to a healthy diet after childbirth, which is conducive to postpartum recovery!
