Can identical twins be boy-girl twins?

Can identical twins be boy-girl twins?

First of all, we need to understand how identical twins are produced. Identical twins are formed when a fertilized egg splits into two embryos. These two embryos contain the same genetic material, and because they are from the same embryo, their gender is also the same. Therefore, the phenomenon of twins being boy-girl twins does not exist.

Can identical twins be boy-girl twins?

Identical twins cannot be boy-girl twins.

"Identical twins" refers to a fertilized egg that splits into two or more parts during cleavage, and each small part of the fertilized egg develops into a young body and is born from the mother. Refers to twins that develop from the same fertilized egg. The twins are of the same gender, either both male or both female. Since the twins have the same genetic material, they look almost identical. Identical twins will not be boy-girl twins. They are fertilized by one egg and the sex of the fetuses is usually the same. When the fertilized egg divides, cleavage (mitosis) occurs, that is, a fertilized egg splits into two identical daughter cells (embryos) in the early stages of development. Two fetuses can be in one amniotic cavity. Therefore, identical twins cannot be boy-girl twins.

Can identical twins be boy-girl twins? How are boy-girl twins formed?

Boy-girl twins are twins of different sexes, that is, dizygotic twins. Only in this situation can boy-girl twins appear. There is a 50% chance of dizygotic twins becoming boy-girl twins.

Twins formed by the splitting of a single fertilized egg are called monozygotic twins. They are released from the same mature follicles, or mature follicles from both ovaries. In this case, there will be no twins, a male and a female. The characteristic of monozygotic twins is that the blood circulation of the two fetuses is connected through the placenta. Therefore, the blood type and gender of identical twins are exactly the same, and their faces are difficult to distinguish. Having twins is related to genes, race, drugs, etc.

The reason for the formation of twins is that two eggs are fertilized at the same time to form two fertilized eggs, which become dizygotic twins. They are implanted in the decidua layer of the uterine wall and develop into twins. This type of twins is a group of two fetuses each with a separate placenta, chorion and alanine membrane. The blood circulation between the two placentas is not connected. The two fetuses live in their own gestational sacs, and there is a septum between the two amniotic membranes composed of two sides of the amnion and two layers of chorion. The gender and blood type of dizygotic twins can be the same or different, and their appearance is the same as that of normal brothers and sisters.

1. Sweet potatoes

You can refer to the Yoruba women in Nigeria, a West African country, who eat a lot of sweet potatoes. Because sweet potatoes contain a substance similar to estrogen, which helps with fertility. Statistics show that the Yoruba people have the highest rate of twins in the world.

2. Folic acid

Studies have found that women who take folic acid have nearly twice the chance of conceiving twins than women who do not take it. Among 2,569 pregnant women who had taken folic acid, 2.8 out of every 100 children they gave birth to were twins, while among pregnant women who did not take folic acid, the proportion was 1.5. Experts estimate that folic acid supplements may increase the frequency of ovulation, allowing multiple eggs to enter the uterus, and thus produce twins.

3. Ovulation-inducing drugs

Take ovulation medication to stimulate follicle development. On the fifth day of menstruation, take clomiphene, an ovulation-promoting drug, for 5 consecutive days. The ovulation rate of this drug reaches about 80%, but the pregnancy rate only reaches 30-40%. The specific reason is unclear. After taking the medicine, it is recommended to have a B-ultrasound examination around the 12th day of menstruation to see how many follicles there are. If there are two, the possibility of pregnant with twins is high, but things are not absolute.

4. Gecko

Geckos contain high levels of male hormones. Gecko, especially its tail, contains high levels of androgen, which can stimulate and regulate the female gonad axis to a certain extent. But at the same time, it may also increase female ovulation. If a woman becomes pregnant while taking gecko, the fetus is prone to twins or multiple births.
